What’s going on Wednesday? (Night Beats, Au Revoir Simone, Luke Temple, Paul Collins, Pinprick Punishment, more)
Night Beats @ Austin Psych Fest 2014 (more by Tim Griffin)
For all of tonight’s shows, and tomorrow’s, check out our NYC concert calendar.
Night Beats, Beverly, LODRO, Roya @ Baby’s All Right
Seattle psych/garage rockers Night Beats keeps things good and greasy on last year’s Sonic Bloom. This is a pretty great bill with just-added Beverly (who’s album came out this week), Roya (featuring members of Habibi and The Clean) and LODRO’s sinister blues.
Au Revoir Simone, Little Daylight, Lower 48 @ Brooklyn Bowl
Having been together for 10 years now, ARS still sound fresh on their most recent album, Move in Spectrums. If you can’t make this show, they’ll play MoMA on Thursday.
Paul Collins’ Beat, 1-800-BAND, Marvin Berry and The New Sound, Fletcher C. Johnson @ Cake Shop
Powerpop legend Paul Collins will surely fill Cake Shop to the sweaty brim tonight, with an excellent undercard of likeminded upstarts.
People, Child Abuse, Cellular Chaos, Angel of Retribution @ Death by Audio
Avant trio People features Mary Halvorson, Kevin Shea, and Crystal Stilts keyboardist Kyle Forester. Tonight’s the record release show for their new album, 3xaWomen, and it’s an all-around experimental/noisy bill.
Babe The Blue Ox, Ida @ Mercury Lounge
Two of NYC’s longest running indie rock bands, who can say how many times these two have played together over the last 20 years?
SPEEDO>, Luke Temple, Austin Vaughn @ Manhattan Inn
Here We Go Magic’s Luke Temple highlight’s this free show at Manhattan Inn. The performance room is impossibly small, and in the round, making for a very memorable show environment.
Pinprick Punishment, Future Primitive, Agitator, A Truth, Geronimo @ Don Pedro
Pinpick Punishment make a vaguely experimental brand of hardcore that recalls classic ’80s bands such as Black Flag and B’last. The Japanese crew are over in America on their current tour and have a few shows left, including tonight’s in NYC.
Big Terrific Comedy Show @ Cameo Gallery
Max Silvestri hosts the free weekly comedy show in the back of Williamsburg’s Lovin’ Cup. No word on who’s performing tonight, but Max usually lets us know via his Twitter.
Dave Hill, Bridey Elliot, Erik Bergstrom, Kara Klenk, Mike Recine, Alec Lambert, Boris Khaykin @ Muchmore’s
If that’s not enough comedy for your, here’s another show in Williamsburg, this one at tiny Muchmore’s featuring sometimes BV contributor Dave Hill and a host of other funny folk. Free.
For laughs, check out the NYC Comedy calendar too.
