Subhumans at Punk Rock Bowling 2013 (more by Keith Marlowe)
Subhumans

Lauryn Hill at FPSF 2014 (more by Dana (distortion) Yavin)
Lauryn Hill

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Nicole Atkins @ Hammerstein Ballroom
What can you say about Nick Cave? He’s a living legend and remains an absolutely magnetic live performer. It will probably be raining outside tonight, but Nick will bring the thunder indoors. Tickets are still available.

Subhumans, Sheer Terror, White Collar Crime, Mischief Brew @ le Poisson Rouge
Two veteran punk bands team up for this show at LPR tonight, the UK’s legendary Subhumans and hometown NYHC heroes Sheer Terror.

Lauryn Hill @ Brooklyn Bowl
Though Lauryn Hill sometimes has to postpone her shows, she’s still been pretty active lately, and tonight she kicks off a 2-night stand at Brooklyn Bowl which should be packed with favorites from her classic album The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill and her time in The Fugees too.

Luke Temple, Buffalo Stance, Laser Background, Killer Bob @ Baby’s All Right
Here We Go Magic frontman Luke Temple released Good Mood Fool last year, where he bathed in warm funk and gentle reggae, giving things an enjoyably mellow vibe.

Body Language, Not Blood, Paint, Psychic Twin, Starlight Girls, Neighbors, Weyes Blood @ Onderdonk House
This is the first day of the 2014 Out in the Streets which is happening at the historic Van Onderdonk House in Ridgewood Queens. The bucolic setting should make for a nice change of pace from the DIY venues many of these bands are more prone to play.

NY Deathfest ft Defeated Sanity, Gruesome Stuff Relish, Internal Bleeding, Embalmer, Dehumanized, Amputated Genitals, Parasitic Extirpation, Coffin Dust, Abacinate, Cognitive, Backyotomy @ Saint Vitus
Maryland doesn’t get all the fun. NY has a Deathfest now too (no affiliation), though it’s a smaller one but does include some great names in metal. This is day 2 of 2.

Brooks Wheelan @ Union Hall
Go console Wheelan on being fired from Saturday Night Live at his standup night tonight. Maybe remind him that Robert Downey Jr. was fired after one season too and he turned out ok. Eventually.

Comedy Night @ Knitting Factory
Big league comedy talent (Chris Rock, Louis CK, etc) show up regularly (and unannounced) for Hannibal’s very popular free comedy show at Knitting Factory’s front bar. Having had his own Comedy Central special and a featured performer on Broad City, Hannibal himself is getting pretty big league. Get there early.
