What’s going on Monday? (Bear in Heaven, Boris, Nick Cave, Estrogen Highs, The Offspring, Ratking, Sediment Club & more)
Bear in Heaven @ Bowery Ballroom, 2013 (more by Greg Cristman)
You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…
Bear in Heaven @ Rough Trade
This is a record release show for Brooklyn spacerockers Bear in Heaven’s new album Time is Over One Day Old. To get in you need to buy a copy of the record today at Rough Trade (but you get two wristbands to get in for one purchase).
Hamish Kilgour, The Estrogen Highs, Civil Union, Hippy @ Cake Shop
Conneticuit’s Estrogen Highs will have a new album on Trouble In Mind this fall, so head here tonight for an early taste, with a solo set from The Clean’s Hamish Kilgour, and Aukland, NZ’s Civil Union.
Degreaser, Sediment Club, Greg Fox, Savini Psoas, Weasel Walter @ Death By Audio
It’s going to be a noisy night at Death by Audio, with well-named Brooklyn band DeGreaser, Providence, RI’s Sediment Club, and sometimes Liturgy drummer Greg Fox. (Earplugs are a buck at the bar, by the way.)
20,000 Days on Earth screening w/ Nick Cave @ Florence Gould Hall
Nick Cave documentary 20,000 Days on Earth screens tonight with a Q&A and solo set from the man himself. Sold out as you might imagine.
Wyatt Cenac’s Night Train @ Littlefield
Hop aboard Wyatt Cenac’s weekly Night Train comedy show tonight with guests Jessi Klein, Jeffrey Joseph, Sean Donnelly, and Candy Lawrence.
RatKing @ S.O.B.’s
Following their performance at Lollapalooza over the weekend, local rap act Ratking will play to a slightly smaller audience tonight.
Boris, Youth Worship @ Saint Vitus
Japanese shapeshifters Boris are makers of sludge metal, J Pop, and several other things that exist in that giant spectrum. Their newest album, Noise, is appropriately named and full of rippers. Tonight’s show, however, will be one of their “drumless drone” shows.
The Offspring, Bad Religion, Pennywise, The Vandals @ Terminal 5
The Offspring’s classic, Smash, is two decades old this year. They’ll play that in full, with the undercard being their old Epitaph labelmates Bad Religion and Pennywise.
Bob Log III @ McKittrick Hotel
Self-described one-man-band-guitar-party-dance-mess Bob Log III is currently on tour bringing that wild thing he does to the McKittrick Hotel tonight.
The Fixx @ HighLine Ballroom
New wave / post-punk band The Fixx had hits like “Saved by Zero” and “One Thing Leads to Another” in the ’80s and have continued to make records, most recently 2012’s Beautiful Friction. Tonight’s setlist was chose by fans.
Old Crow Medicine Show, Spirit Family Reunion, Langhorne Slim @ Central Park Summerstage
A night of modern-day folk pop under the stars in Central Park — there are worse ways to spend a Monday night.
John Fogerty, Jackson Browne @ PNC Bank Arts Center
Former frontman of swamp rock vets Creedence Clearwater Revival and active solo artist John Fogerty plays tonight with mellow man and ’70s icon Jackson Brown.
