What’s going on Tuesday? (Muscle and Bone, Sleigh Bells, Haim, Bob Log III, Caged Animals, Boyd Shropshire & more)

Sleigh Bells @ Firefly 2014 (more by Dana [distortion] Yavin)

Caged Animals @ Bowery Ballroom 2013 (more by PSquared)
Caged Animals

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Muscle and Bone, Young and Heartless, Placeholder, What Moon Things @ Palisades
Asheville’s Muscle & Bone and Pennsylvania’s Young and Heartless both have solid albums out this year — Peace & Light and The Pull of Gravity, respectively — and now the two bands’ tour hits NYC for this BV-presented show. With Placeholder and What Moon Things on the lineup as well, this is a hard-to-miss show if we do say so (and we do).

Landlady, Lip Talk, Winter Bear @ Death by Audio
Adam Schatz plays in about 35 bands, but Landlady is his baby where he makes a brainy brand of mathy artpop. Landlady’s new album, Upright Behavior, came out earlier this year on Hometapes.

Gurus, Onesie, Slang King @ Cameo Gallery
Any band that names themselves after a song by The Fall will at least get us to listen to them, hence us writing this sentence about noisemerchants Slang King. They may owe more to Sonic Youth than Mark E Smith, but that’s not bad, either.

Lost Boy?, Caged Animals, Honduras, Boytoy @ Shea Stadium
Caged Animals are back after a half-year hibernation — find out what they’re up to tonight, as part of an all-around solid lineup of Brooklyn indie pop.

The Offspring, Bad Religion, Pennywise, The Vandals @ Terminal 5
The Offspring’s classic, Smash, is two decades old this year. They’ll play that in full, with the undercard being their old Epitaph labelmates Bad Religion and Pennywise.

Liam McEneaney (host), Gilbert Gottfried , Mike Doughty, Kaki King, Amanda Melson, Hand Job Academy @ The Bell House
Liam McEneaney, who hosts tonight’s edition of longrunning comedy show Tell All Your Friends, is turning 29, so help ease his Saturn Returns fears by showing up tonight for this big room edition of the show.

Jody Porter (of Fountains of Wayne), Zachary Cale @ Bowery Electric
Jody Porter is a guitar-pop vet, having logged time in The Belltower (with Britta Phillips) and Fountains of Wayne. On his own, things lean a little more psych. Tonight’s show also features southern gentleman Zachary Cale.

Modest Mouse, Mimicking Birds @ Capitol Theatre
Before they play Forest Hills Tennis Stadium with Brand New, indie rock mainstays Modest Mouse play this smaller show at the Cap.

Bob Log III, The Pork Torta @ The Wick
Self-described one-man-band-guitar-party-dance-mess Bob Log III is currently on tour bringing that wild thing he does to the Wick tonight. Also on the bill: “Arizona’s #1 Party Band,” The Pork Torta.

Jess Williamson, Boyd Shropshire, Matt Bauer @ Union Pool
Boyd Shropshire has been playing in Philly bands for years — you may remember him from mid-’00s indie rockers Human Television and he’s also spent time with Kurt Vile & the Violators. Shropshire’s new solo album, Victory Weather, is out this week. Help him celebrate tonight.

Rey Pila, Lovers & Reflections, Dreamers, Raindeer @ Pianos
Mexico City band Rey Pila will soon be on tour with Interpol, playing large rooms on the West Coast. First, though, they have an August residency at Pianos, tonight being the first of four Tuesdays.

HAIM, Sleigh Bells @ Brooklyn Bridge Park
Two big acts are playing this free show under the Brooklyn Bridge. You had to RSVP to get tickets. Get there early.
