blood-orange-8

What's going on Saturday? (Blood Orange, Delorean, Jacco Gardner, Echo & the Bunnymen, Eminem, Ketzer, more)

Blood Orange at Webster Hall in February (more by Amanda Hatfield)
Blood Orange

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Blood Orange, Moses Sumney, Sean Nicholas Savage @ Central Park Summerstage (FREE)
The very busy Dev Hynes is currently best known for his Blood Orange project, which is an unabashed take on big ’80s pop. The prolific/talented songwriter and lo-fi recording enthusiast Sean Nicholas Savage should be a good match.

Jacco Gardner, EZTV, Nick Garrie @ Baby’s All Right
Netherlands wunderkind Jacco Gardner lives in a cucumber castle filled with harpsichords and other baroque psychedelia. If you dig Barrett-era Floyd and The Left Banke, Gardner does it very well — and his live band is ace.

Delorean @ Baby’s All Right
After tonight’s Jacco Gardner show at Baby’s, we at BrooklynVegan are excited to present this show from Spanish synth popsters Delorean. It’s a full band show after their Full Moon Fest set earlier this month had to be changed to a DJ set (and if you went to Full Moon Fest, you should have a discount emailed to you for tickets for this).

Eminem, Rihanna @ MetLife Stadium
It may be over ten years since Eminem’s put out a great album, but The Slim Shady LP, The Marshall Mathers LP and The Eminem Show are all hip hop classics, and you’re bound to hear plenty of those at tonight and tomorrow’s MetLife Stadium shows.

Echo and the Bunnymen, Mikky Ekko @ Irving Plaza
Despite having a new album, Meteorites, that frontman Ian McCulloch says is their best album in years (he says that about every album) the Bunnymen’s recent setlists have been mostly a hit fest. If Songs to Learn and Sing is your favorite album, you’ll be in heaven (up here) tonight.

Doldrums, Dadras, Patricia, She Devils @ Silent Barn
Doldrums’ experimental pop was especially good at his recent show that included Moon King members Daniel Woodhead and Maddy Wilde. We’re not sure who’s in the lineup tonight, but this intimate show should be a good one either way.

The Juan Maclean (DJ Set), Beto Cravioto, Travmatic @ Output
DFA mainstays The Juan Maclean have a new album coming in September, and though they don’t have a live gig here yet, they’ll be DJing Output tonight. Maybe they’ll drop a few new cuts.

Ketzer, Natur, Throaat @ Saint Vitus
Germany’s Ketzer make excellent blackened thrash and despite having releases dating back to 2005, they’ve never played the US before until now. Strong local support comes from Natur and Throaat.

Alex G, Elvis Depressedly, Foxes in Fiction, Emily Reo @ Shea Stadium
Lo-fi singer/songwriter Alex G’s buzz has been building lately, so tonight’s show in a DIY venue (where he’ll likely feel right at home) will be a good one to catch before he’s potentially too big for this kinda stuff. All likeminded openers too.

Open Mike Eagle, Lt Heatrip and the Karma Kids, Premrock, Jake Spike @ Palisades
Chicago’s Open Mike Eagle has associations to the Hellfyre Club, and if you like their brand of alt-rap you know what to expect from Open Mike Eagle too.

‘Daylight’ w/ Young Male, DJ Dog Dick, Ratking, Dope Body, CO LA, Special Guest, Sadaf, Jib Kidder, Gob, Eartheater, Bonglester, Dreem Dungeon, Rick Rab (+ Leblaze), Hungry Bodies @ Europa
This is night 2 of DIY-dance fest DAYLIGHT, featuring a slew of talented beatmakers.
