You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

They Might Be Giants, Jonathan Coulton @ Music Hall of Williamsburg
Everyone’s favorite geek rockers They Might Be Giants continue their monthly MHOW residency tonight, playing songs from their first album, their new Dial-A-Song project, and more. Their pal Jonathan Coulton opens.

Helmet @ Saint Vitus
20 years ago Helmet released their third album, Betty, which saw them pushing alt-metal’s boundaries and incorporating sounds from outside the genre. Now for its anniversary, they’re playing the album in full (plus a lot of other songs) on this tour which hits NYC for three sold-out shows. This is the third.

PRhyme (DJ Premier & Royce da 5’9″), Your Old Droog, Boldy James @ Highline Ballroom
Some people say last year was a bad year for rap — besides Run the Jewels at least — but another duo of veterans revitalizing their careers gave RTJ a run for their money. DJ Premier and Royce da 5’9″ put out an all-killer album that definitely recalled rap’s golden era, but didn’t sound dated. Tonight their tour in support of it hits NYC. Nas soundalike Your Old Droog opens.

Shellshag, Fleabite, Katherine, Alice @ Silent Barn
Local DIY faves Shellshag team up with Boston’s Fleabite, Columbus’ Katherine, and new Don Giovanni signees Alice for this matinee show that’s raising money for Boston’s Smash It Dead Fest.

Crosss, Advertising, Cellphone @ Union Pool
If you enjoy doomy riffs but always wanted to hear more traditional indie rock vocals paired with them, Canadian band Crosss have you covered. This, their second of two NYC stops as part of their tour with crazed psych-punks Cellphone, should be a good show.

Tonight’s also the 87th Annual Academy Awards with host Neil Patrick Harris. Will it be Boyhood or Birdman?

For laughs, check out the NYC Comedy calendar too.
