trash talk

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Trash Talk, Ratking, Lee Bannon @ Palisades
Raging hardcore band Trash Talk pretty much never play a show that doesn’t have both the band and crowd going apeshit, and tonight’s at small-ish Bushwick venue Palisades should be just that. (Trash Talk were also one of the first bands to play Palisades when it opened last year and it was insane.) Alt-rappers Ratking and hip hop producer Lee Bannon open, and the three of them do it again at Webster’s Marlin Room tomorrow.

Matthew E. White @ BRIC House
White’s lush, string-laden new album, Fresh Blood, is out next week and he’ll be celebrating tonight. It’s a special show, where he’ll be backed by a 30-piece orchestra, which should really bring those songs to life. Sold out.

Nails, Incendiary, Deathcycle @ Saint Vitus
Nails blend metal and hardcore in a way that’s as relentlessly brutal as the former but embraces the brevity of the latter. Their latest record, 2013’s Abandon All Life, is one of the more superior albums in this style of recent years, but of course this stuff is best experienced live.

Torres @ The Greene Space
Torres has a new album on the way, and from the sound of its lead single, it further embraces her rocking side. Catch her playing a few shows on your lunch break (this is a 12:30 PM show) at this WNYC Soundcheck session today.

Bleed The Pigs, Anicon, Skullshitter, Belus @ The Acheron
Nashville grinders Bleed the Pigs make raw, powerful stuff on their new split with Thetan that dropped last week. Stream it below, and catch them at Acheron tonight. Good local support too.

Rivergazer, Small Wonder, Plume Giant, Diet Cig @ Shea Stadium
Pretty good lineup of local bands with the Porches-related Rivergazer, Epoch member Small Wonder, the poppy Plume Giant, and lo-fi pop duo Diet Cig.

Dropkick Murphys, The Mahones, Blood or Whiskey @ The Paramount
It’s almost St. Patrick’s Day, and what better time to see Boston’s favorite Celtic punks Dropkick Murphys? Tonight begins their 5-show run in the NYC-area.

Langhorne Slim, Jonny Fritz @ Baby’s All Right
Langhorne has a new record coming out soon and, ahead of it’s promotional push, plays this solo show tonight with Deer Tick’s Johnny Fritz. Sold out.

HTRK, Blazer Sound System, Kiki Kudo @ Baby’s All Right
Australian post punk act HTRK released Psychic 9-5 Club, last year which was their first album made as a duo, following the death of Sean Stewart who died in 2011. It’s their most hushed, electronic-based album to date, but expect volume to be high tonight.

Rain Machine, Lewis Lazar (and The Hydras), Aerial East, Kelsey Lu @ Cameo
When not playing in TV on the Radio, Kyp Malone stays busy with his solo project Rain Machine that takes on influences like bluegrass and gospel.

Aparna Nancherla, Michelle Buteau, Seaton Smith, Ben Kronberg, Mike Lawrence, Dave Hill @ Littlefield
This show is “Picture This” which is “a live comedy show with stand-ups performing while they are drawn live by some of the best animators, cartoonists, and other artists.”

Lady Lamb The Beekeeper, Cuddle Magic @ Rough Trade
Aly Spaltro, aka Lady Lamb the Beekeeper, gets the “whimsy” tag a lot (mainly due to her name) but new album Ripely Pine shows she’s got some serious muscle, too. Tonight’s the record release show for that LP and it’s sold out.

Yonatan Gat, Beech Creeps, Kid Millions/Jim Sauter Duo @ Union Pool
Onetime Monotonix member Yonatan Gat celebrates the release of his new album, Director, tonight with with a pretty stellar lineup of avant/experimental rock. Gat smudges the line between performer and audience — as long as you’re prepared to be an active participant, his shows are a lot of fun.
