You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

The Mystery Lights, The Yin Yangs, Larry and The Babes @ Alphaville
Party-friendly garage rockers The Mystery Lights are a real blast live, acheiving near Oh Sees levels of energy (though less mic-eating). Their most recent album, At Home With the Mystery Lights, came out in February and is worth checking out, too. But their live show is where it’s at.

Modern Vices, Bluffing, Lightning Bug @ Baby’s All Right
It’s nice when bands name their own genre, sometimes. Chicago’s Modern Vices call what they do “dirty doo-wop” which probably has more to do with the sonics than the lyrical content. There’s not a lot vocal harmonies in what they do, but there is plenty of raw emotion.

Steve Taylor & The Perfect Foil, Danielson @ Studio at Webster Hall
Cult faves Danielson are out on the road opening for veteran Christian alternative singer Steve Taylor whose new album was released on vinyl via Danielson’s Sounds Familyre label.

Love as Laughter, August Wells, Lefty Bones @ Union Pool
Sam Jayne has fronted various incarnations of indie rock band Love As Laughter for 20 years, moving the band from the Pacific Northwest to Brooklyn. Recent single “LZY SLDR” finds them still in catchy top form.

Adult Mom, Understudy, Doubting Thomas Cruise Control, Radiator King @ Knitting Factory
Recent Tiny Engines signee Adult Mom makes twee-ish folk not too unlike the Moldy Peaches. Also on the bill is Boston folk singer Radiator King (who recently toured with Pile) and more.

High Pop, Quarterbacks (solo), Painted Zeros, King Clone @ Shea Stadium
Shea hosts a lineup of regulars in the local DIY/indie rock scene tonight.

For laughs, check out the NYC Comedy calendar too.
