You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Hutch and Kathy, Laura and Greg, Allie Goertz @ Rough Trade
Before they got louder in The Thermals, Hutch Harris and Kathy Foster made folky pop asHutch and Kathy. Their 2002 eponymous album got its first-ever vinyl pressing forRecord Store Day 2015 and they’re celebrating with a short tour.

Arthur Russell tribute w/ Sam Amidon, Cults, Redding Hunter, Dev Hynes, Thao Nguyen, Richard Reed Parry, Rubblebucket, Little Screen @ BAM
Much like last year’s William Onyeabor tribute at BAM, this year’s Red Bull Music Academy closes out with a two-day tribute — this time to ’80s NYC downtown scene icon Arthur Russell — featuring a host of talented  performers.

Damon & Naomi, Tanya Donelly, Elisa Ambrogio @ The Bell House
Eighties Boston indie comes to The Bell House tonight with Damon and Naomi (who were both in Galaxie 500) and Tanya Donelly (of Throwing Muses and Belly), plus Magik Markers’ Elisa Ambrogio.

The Loft, Papa Topo, The Catenary Wires, Jessica & the Fletchers, Pale Lights @ Cameo (NYC Popfest)
The second night of NYC Popfest features some UK indiepop icons: The Loft, who were on Creation Records in the label’s early days, and The Catenary Wires which features Amelia Fletcher and Rob Pursey of Heavenly and Talulah Gosh. Stick around after the show for a Popfest edition of the Mondo! danceparty.

‘My Secret World – The Story of Sarah Records’ @ Knitting Factory
Popfest is also hosting a screening of this documentary about what may be the quintessential UK indiepop label, Sarah Records, which was home to Field Mice, Heavenly, The Orchids, and Boyracer.

Amy Schumer @ The Apollo
The very funny Amy Schumer will likely be a household name after her starring role in Trainwreck this summer, but for now she’s just very very popular, as her two sold-out Apollo performances tonight prove.

Billy Idol, Cayetana @ Pier 97
Between Generation X and his solo career, Billy Idol has tons of classics of the original punk/new wave era — “Dancing With Myself,” “Ready Steady Go,” “White Wedding, and “Rebel Yell” to name a few. We’ll (most likely) hear all those and more tonight, and making the show even better is an opening set from the great Philly indie rock newcomers Cayetana. The two will meet up again in September at Riot Fest Chicago.

Glenn Kotche (of Wilco) & Third Coast Percussion @ The Met
Tonight, Wilco’s Glenn Kotche and Chicago ensemble Third Coast Percussion are presenting a show, “which centers on one of the most extraordinary objects in the Met and Musical Instruments department’s collection, an 1880 Rock Harmonicon, also known as a stone dulcimer or a geological piano.” They’ll also perform Steve Reich’s Music for Pieces of Wood and Nagoya Marimbas.

Other Lives, Riothorse Royale @ Music Hall of Williamsburg
Chamber pop trio Other Lives recently released their new album, Rituals, which is full of great atmospheres and harmonies, and you can tell it’s the work of a band who have hung around Thom Yorke. (Atoms for Peace drummer Joey Waronker also co-produced it.) Tonight’s their first of two NYC shows on this tour.

Fireworks, Turnover, Sorority Noise, Royal Psalms @ The Studio at Webster Hall
Pop punk band Fireworks headline this bill, but we most recommend catching Turnover, who’s new album is an enjoyable mix of jangle pop and shoegazy atmospheres. Also, BV editor Andrew Sacher will be DJing before the show and in between sets.

Geoff Rickly, Meghann Wright, Gatherers, Help Me | Help You @ Maxwell’s
Geoff Rickly’s no stranger to Maxwell’s — his old band Thursday played there plenty of times — and though the current booking is a little different than it used to be, Geoff will bring some of that old spirit back tonight.

Rone, FaltyDL, The Range @ Good Room
If you’re into electronic music, this is a pretty great bill all around, with Paris/Berlin producer Rone, NYC’s UK-inspired FaltyDL, and Rhode Island IDMer The Range.

Horrendous, Pyrrhon, Huldra, Somnol, Sentience @ Saint Vitus
Horrendous’ Ecydysis was one of the best melodic death metal albums of last year, accessible without crossing into pop territory. They return to NYC tonight, and locals Pyrrhon are worth catching too.

Glocca Morra, LVL UP, Greys, Socialite @ Shea Stadium
For most of Glocca Morra’s career, they were among the Kinsella-style “emo revival” bands, but their newest 7″ had them moving more into punk territory. It’s good stuff, and sadly it will be their last, as Glocca Morra are currently on their final tour. Come say farewell, and also catch sets from ’90s-style indie rockers LVL UP and Canadian noise punks Greys.

Slim Cessna’s Auto Club, Stephen Brodsky @ Rough Trade
Slim Cessna and crew have been making gothic alt-country for over 20 years, as they recently chronicled in their new An Introduction for Young and Old Europe compilation. Tonight’s their second of two NYC shows on this tour, and quality support comes from Cave In/Mutoid Man’s Stephen Brodsky.

Steven Wilson @ Best Buy Theater
Porcupine Tree’s Steven Wilson recently put out a new solo album, Hand. Cannot. Erase, which is inspired by the true story of Joyce Vincent, whose body went undiscovered for two years in her own apartment. It’s also got his epic prog stylings very much intact. Tonight’s his first of two NYC stops on this tour in support of the album.

Marcos Valle with Carlos Lyra @ Birdland
Brazil’s Marcos Valle has had a long career, stretching back to the ’60s. But he may be best known now for his 1982 single “Estrellar” which was used in a Southern Comfort ad shown a lot during last year’s World Cup telecasts. Fans of samba, bossa nova, jazz, disco and kitschy fun take note — he’s at Birdland through Saturday.

Bill Frisell @ The Appel Room (Lincoln Center)
In this performance titled “Up & Down The Mississippi Traveling Highway 61,” iconic guitar master Bill Frisell “embarks on a musical journey along the revered route, which Bob Dylan famously immortalized in 1965.”
