What's going on Thursday? (Desaparecidos, Andrew Bird, Ty Segall, Lucinda Williams, RJD2, FOUNTAINSUN & more)

Desaparecidos @ Webster Hall, 2013 (more by Tracy Alison)
Desaparecidos

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Desaparecidos, The So So Glos @ Shea Stadium
Conor Oberst put out his best album in ten years with the new Desaparecidos album. Unlike his recent folk and country affairs, this is a real-deal punk album, so where better to celebrate than a DIY punk venue? Opening is The So So Glos, who appear on the new Desa album and also often call Shea home.

Samantha Urbani @ Baby’s All Right
Onetime Friends frontperson Samantha Urbani is striking out on her own, having released a couple promising solo tracks recently. Tonight makes the debut of her new live band. It’s a free show with RSVP.

Parlor Walls, Night Powers, Courtship Ritual, Decorum @ Cake Shop
It’s a night of goth-tinged music at Cake Shop with the sultry Courtship Ritual, the double bass attack of Decorum and more.

Andrew Bird, Roger Sellers @ Le Poisson Rouge
Singer, songwriter, master whistler, expert loop-pedal user, Andrew Bird’s style is one-of-a-kind and it’s always a treat to see him work his magic live — especially in a small venue like LPR.

Al B. Sure @ MetroTech Commons
New Jack Swing crooner Al B Sure plays this free noontime show today as part of the 2015 BAM R&B Fest.

Daniel Higgs’ FOUNTAINSUN, Charlie Looker, Ezekiel Healy @ C&B Luncheonette
FOUNTAINSUN is Daniel Higgs (Lungfish) and Fumie Ishii and make folk that is sometimes lovely, sometimes droney and dissonant. Catch them tonight at this outtdoor show which happens at dusk (6:30 PM)  in the backyard of this Ridgewood diner. Should be a lovely evening

Lucinda Williams, Jason Walker @ Prospect Park Bandshell
Acclaimed roots singer-songwriter Lucinda Williams self-released last year’s terrific double album, Down Where The Spirit Meets The Bone,  which should sound pretty nice amongst the greenery of Prospect Park. This is a free Celebrate Brooklyn! show, 7:30 PM.

The Lox @ Crotona Park
The free hip hop shows in this year’s SummerStage season continue tonight with veteran NYC group The LOX, who have been increasingly active lately, in the studio and live.

RJD2, Michna, Lamin Fofana @ Output
Long-running underground hip hop producer RJD2 keeps his shows old school, flipping vinyl and recording drum machine and keyboard loops live. And he can still move crowds as good as any number of younger DJs.

Royal Thunder, Wild Throne, The Golden Grass @ Saint Vitus
Two bands that fall between metal and just heavy rock join forces for this show. There’s the ’70s hard rock-leaning Royal Thunder, and the proggy post-hardcore of Wild Throne.

Warthog, Tenement, Big Zit, Ivy, Nancy @ Acheron
Tenement’s new double album, Predatory Highlights (on Don Giovanni), is one of 2015’s most celebrated underground punk albums. Tonight the band is in NYC with their tourmates Big Zit and three of the best local punk bands.

The Deslondes, Feral Foster, Twain @ Mercury Lounge
The Deslondes make the kind of country you may have heard in a Southern bar about 60 years ago. It’s good stuff, and a refreshing change from the stuff you hear on the radio.

Robert Glasper Trio @ Blue Note Jazz Club
As part of the Blue Note Jazz Festival, jazz/hip hop pianist Robert Glasper is doing four nights at the Blue Note (6/24-27). His albums are loaded with guests like Common, Jill Scott, Brandy, Snoop Dogg, Lupe Fiasco, Norah Jones, Bilal and more.

David Crosby @ Town Hall
In addition to his time in the Byrds and Crosby Stills Nash & Young, David Crosby has had an intermittent and impressive solo career. His most recent album was last year’s Croz, his first solo record in 21 years.

Girl Band, Guerilla Toss, Monograms
It would be nice to see Ireland’s Girl Band in an all-ages DIY-venue where their frenzied, near-metal squawk might inspire riots, it’s worth catching them in the slightly more staid confines of Rough Trade as well. New DFA signees and fellow rabble-rousers Guerilla Toss are also on the bill.

Ty Segall, Christian Peslak, Cory Hanson @ The Bell House
Ty Segall takes NYC with only his acoustic guitar, playing four sold-out shows this week. Will people still try to crowd surf? Tonight’s should be good, with an opening set from WAND frontman Cory Hanson.

Marc Maron, Mike Lawrence @ The Capitol Threatre
Having just made headlines interviewing President Obama, comedian, podcaster, TV star and enjoyable crank Marc Maron brings his current standup show to The Cap.

PAT / Lady Miss Kier, Aaron Clark, Amber Valentine @ Union Pool
It’s a special Pride edition of JD Samson’s monthly party that focuses on “good vibes, good sound, video projection by local video artists and DJ’s that aren’t afraid to go deep.” There are DJs in the front room and the back performance space, and it’s free. Deee-Lite’s Lady Miss Kier is among tonight’s guest DJs.

Seoul @ SolarOne (Rooftop Films)
Montreal trio Seoul released their debut album, I Become a Shade, last week. If you haven’t checked it out, it’s lush synthpop that’s sort of a modern update of the chilled-out, sophisti-pop sounds of ’80s acts like The Dream Academy, China Crisis or Blue Nile. Tonight’s a free Rooftop Films show, and they play before a screening of Frances Ha.

Sasheer Zamata, Jo Firestone, Amber Nelson, Anna Drezen, Awkwafina @ Union Hall
A host of funny folk will read trashy teen fiction to you at this event that also features musical guest Awkwafina.
