Waxahatchee

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Stiff Little Fingers, The Turbo A.C.’s, Two Man Advantage @ Irving Plaza
Stiff Little Fingers appeared on the punk scene in the late ’70s with a raspy voice and a pop sensibility that helped inspire the last three decades or so of melodic punk bands. It holds up excellently today, as you can experience in real life tonight.

Waxahatchee, Speedy Ortiz, Weyes Blood @ Pier 84
This free show is excellent from start to finish. Kicking things off is powerhouse vocalist Weyes Blood, then it’s two likeminded but different indie rock bands. Speedy Ortiz bring the discordant, tangled riffs and Waxahatchee bring the folkier elements and (as of their new album) keyboard-driven art pop. Did we mention it’s free?

World Party @ City Winery
Karl Wallinger’s psychedelic pop band World Party continues their four-night, full-band run at City Winery.

Punch Brothers, Sarah Jarosz @ Prospect Park
While Chris Thile’s Nickel Creek bandmates remain busy with their Watkins Family Hour project, Chris continues on with his progressive bluegrass band Punch Brothers. Their latest release is this year’s The Phosphorescent Blues, and tonight they play this free show in their hometown.

Future Punx, Beverly, Honduras, MPHO @ Alphaville
A pretty great lineup of local bands awaits tonight with post-wavers Future Punx, insanely hooky guitar pop outfit Beverly, and solid, Brit-leaning garage rock combo Honduras.

Delicate Steve, Celestial Shore @ Rocks Off Cruise
A night of guitar virtuosity is on board this Rocks off cruise tonight. If you’re going, be prepared for lots of bad “I can’t see the shore from here” type jokes.

The Rezillos @ Wonder Bar
UK punk/new wave vets The Rezillos released ZERO, their first album since the ’70s, back in March which found the band still in fun form. But expect to hear classics like “Top of the Pop” tonight too.

Electric Six, Cosmica @ Asbury Lanes
Detroit’s finest purveyors of tongue-in-cheek bombast, Electric Six lay it on thick with their glammy riffs and bravado-heavy lyrics.

Fastball, The Rembrandts @ BB King’s
Are you like, so into the ’90s? Then there’s no way you’re going to miss the band that wrote “The Way” and “Out of My Head” playing with the band who wrote the Friends theme song, right? RIGHT?!

For laughs, check out the NYC Comedy calendar too.
