Youth Lagoon

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Youth Lagoon, Yvette @ Rough Trade
Youth Lagoon has never made the same album twice, and his new one is a bold art rock record with a similar spirit to the last Perfume Genius LP (with which it shares a producer). It’s great, and tonight’s release show with sensory-overloaders Yvette is sold out.

Albert Hammond Jr., Walking Shapes @ Bowery Ballroom
Albert Hammond Jr’s new solo album, Momentary Masters, has an almost Foals-like math-iness to some of it, and while still very hooky, it’s definitely different territory for the Strokes guitarist.

Ride, DIIV @ Irving Plaza
Revived shoegazers Ride return for second visit to NYC and the first of two shows at Irving Plaza. Tonight’s with DIIV; tomorrow has Besnard Lakes opening.

Chris Gethard, Laura Stevenson @ Union Hall
It’s another night of Chris Gethard’s Career Suicide shows, for which he promises “an hour of stand up focusing on suicide, alcoholism, and all the other funniest parts of life.” This one’s with musical guest Laura Stevenson, who’s new album is shaping up to be punkier than her last.

Startalk Live! w/ Neil deGrasse Tyson & Eugene Mirman @ Beacon Theatre
For the final event of the 2015 Eugene Mirman Comedy Festival, it’s another edition of the popular StarTalk Live! podcast tapings.

Night Train w/ David Cross @ Littlefield
David Cross, soon to be back on TV with his Mr. Show pal Bob Odenkirk, guest hosts this edition of Night Train with guests Owen Smith, Giulia Rozzi, Bryan Babylon, Jim Tews, Billy Wayne Davis, and Ayanna Dookie.

“Tree of Codes” w/ Wayne McGregor, Olafur Eliasson, Jamie xx @ Park Avenue Armory
Choreographer Wayne McGregor and visual artist Olafur Eliasson have a new ballet called Tree of Codes and the music for it was done by Jamie xx, who’s having an incredible year thanks to his very well-received new album In Colour. The ballet runs through September 21.
