You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Yo La Tengo, Nick Lowe @ Kings Theatre
This is a special tour for Yo La Tengo, playing as a four piece with former member Dave Schramm on electric guitar but otherwise going mostly acoustic. Making things Kings Theatre show extra extra special: an opening set from the great Nick Lowe.

Steely Dan @ Beacon Theatre
Steely Dan are back for another multi-night run at Beacon Theatre and each night is a different theme. Tonight it’s 1976’s The Royal Scam in full, plus a set of hits.

Drinks (Cate Le Bon and Tim Presley), Droor, Big Search @ Baby’s All Right
Cate Le Bon played guitar in White Fence last year and she and frontman Tim Presley began writing songs together. It’s probably the strangest album either have made.

Dillinger Four, Night Birds, Big Eyes @ Music Hall of Williamsburg
Melodic punk greats Dillinger Four haven’t played NYC in years, so it’s exciting that they’re finally returning this weekend for two shows. Both have killer like-minded openers too. Sold out.

Red Fang, Whores, Wild Throne @ Palisades
This is a good bill all around of heavy rock, with the stoner-y Red Fang, the noisy Whores, and the proggy Wild Throne.

Mew, The Dodos @ Webster Hall
Mew put out their first album in six years earlier this year, and it picks up right where their prog/dream/pop blend left off. Nobody does it quite like Mew and they’re still in killer form. The Dodos of course not to miss.

Mew @ Rough Trade
Before the Webster show, Mew does an afternoon acoustic in-store at Rough Trade. You have to purchase the album from the Rough Trade store and get a wristband to get in.

Other Lives @ BAM: Brooklyn Academy of Music
Other Lives put out a pretty great new album this year, but this weekend they’re focusing on something different. They’re presenting the world premiere of Reconfiguration: An Evening with Other Lives, which “reconceives the acclaimed indie rock band’s live show as an immersive theatrical experience helmed by Steppenwolf Theatre Company cofounder Terry Kinney.” They do it again tomorrow too.

Band of Heathens, Cory Branan @ Mercury Lounge
Austin’s Band of Heathens are headlining this show, and if you’re going we recommend showing up for country punk singer Cory Branan too.

Alice Cohen, Jerry Paper, King Cyst @ Alphaville
King Cyst is Luka Usmiani who used to be in Big Troubles and is now bassist in Ducktails. His new record sounds like a lost Kevin Ayers’ record: proggy psych-pop with weird forays into jazz.

Olga Bell, Mari Kimura & Jon Rose, DJ Brandon Stosuy, DJ Robin Carolan @ National Sawdust
Olga Bell is a current member of Dirty Projectors, but she’s also been an accomplished solo artist for a while now. Her new EP Incitation comes out in a week and she plays this show ahead of its release.

Eleanor Friedberger @ BAM Cafe
Part of the Onassis festival at BAM, Eleanor will be performing solo at this free show. 7 PM.

Deaf Wish, Richard Papiercuts @ Cake Shop
Their name is no joke: Australia’s Deaf Wish are one of the loudest bands around and will pummel your eardrums senseless. In a good way, of course. Not wearing earplugs would be a mistake, though.

“Fable” @ Knockdown Center
Some of you may remember “Debut,” the ambitious, large-scale production by Derrick Belcham (La Blogotheque) and choreographer Emily Terndrup (Sleep No More) that happened last year at The Knockdown Center and featured music by Porcelain Raft’s Mauro Remiddi, Julianna Barwick and more. Those folks are teaming up again for another large-scale production that again merges independent music, immersive dance theater and large-scale art installation, titled “Fable.”

Seoul, Young Ejecta, Lightning Bug @ Rough Trade
Montreal’s Seoul make airy synthpop that recalls the days of ’80s band like The Dream Academy, The Blue Nile and Prefab Sprout. Their debut album, I Become a Shade, is worth checking out, as is their live show.

A Place to Bury Strangers, Sannhet, Pawns @ Saint Vitus Bar
Their second straight night at Vitus, APTBS tonight take a different, harsher tack tonight with openers Sannhet and Pawns.

Paul F. Tompkins, Paget Brewster, Janet Varney, John Hodgman & more @ The Bell House
Popular Los Angeles stage show “Thrilling Adventure Hour” returns to The Bell House tonight for two sold out shows.

Electric Six, Yip Deceiver @ The Studio at Webster Hall
Electric Six’s new album, Bitch, Don’t Let Me Die!, is the band’s 11th album and offers up balls-to-the-wall riff rock, plinky synthpop, sleazo-disco, cowpunk and other diversions, all unified via the unwaveringly bravado of frontman Dick Valentine who muses, this time, on themes of mortality.

DJ /rupture, Dutch E Germ, Lamin Fofana @ Trans-Pecos
The pseudonym of Jace Clayton, DJ /rupture used three turntables to spin his magic, which defies genre and style.

Gringo Star, Golden Animals, Las Hormiguitas @ Cameo Gallery
It’s an evening of garage psych, headlined by Atlanta mainstays Gringo Star. Not too many chances to check out Cameo.

Horse Meat Disco @ Output
This London-based four-man DJ collective are known for finding pearls in bins of forgotten disco 12″, having released a series of acclaimed compilations. Their real expertise comes into play at their DJ gigs, though. Just trust their taste…and the beat.

For laughs, check out the NYC Comedy calendar too.
