Kendrick Lamar

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Kendrick Lamar, Big Sean, Future, Fetty Wap, Meek Mill, Jeremih, Jidenna, Omarion @ Barclays Center
The lineup for this year’s Power 105.1 Powerhouse is incredibly stacked, with rapper of the year (or maybe artist of the year in any genre) Kendrick Lamar headlining, plus the increasingly good Big Sean, the much-loved Future, the inescapable Fetty Wap, the hard-hitting Meek Mill, the crooning Jeremih and Omarion, and the “Classic Man” Jidenna.

Braids, Tasseomancy @ Baby’s All Right
Montreal’s Braids really found themselves when they made the switch to a mostly electronic setup, as exemplified on this year’s alluring, danceable Deep in the Iris. Openers Tasseomancy are Sari and Romy Lightman who you might know from their time as Austra’s backup singers.

The Ex, Ken Vandermark, SAVAK @ The Bell House (moved from The Wick)
Dutch anarcho/post/punk/jazz collective The Ex, which still includes founding member Terrie Hessels and Katherina Bornefeld (drummer since the early ’80s), are touring with saxophonist and frequent collaborator Ken Vandermark, for what is sure to be a unique performance. Opening is SAVAK which features Sohrab and Greg from Obits (and are quite good).

Dave Gahan, Soulsavers @ Town Hall
Depeche Mode frontman Dave Gahan releases Angels & Ghosts, his second collaborative album with moody, cinematic production team Soulsavers, on Friday. Get a preview tonight.

Opeth @ Beacon Theater
Prog-metallers Opeth are celebrating their 25th anniversary this year, and to celebrate they’re playing 2005’s Ghost Reveries in full at this show. They’re also doing another set which spans their career.

Modest Mouse, Hop Along @ The Space at Westbury
Modest Mouse have been touring a lot lately, and while this current run doesn’t come to NYC it’s nearby tonight for a Long Island show. If you like the type of indie rock that Modest Mouse has offered throughout their career, you’ll probably like openers Hop Along too.

Bongzilla, Blackout, Marching Teeth, Hasj @ Saint Vitus
Stoner metal greats Bongzilla made their return to the stage earlier this year after a hiatus, and they’re still going. Tonight’s your second chance to catch them in NYC in 2015, and the openers are pretty well-matched too.

Cannibal Ox, Liam Tracy @ The Studio at Webster Hall
It only took Cannibal Ox 14 years to follow their awesome 2001 debut The Cold Vein, and even without El-P involved, this year’s Blade of the Ronin is a solid follow up.

Bootblacks, Shannon F, Lovepig @ Paper Box
Fans of ’80s style goth and industrial should feel right at home at this show, headlined by the anthemic Bootblacks and also featuring Light Asylum’s Shannon Funchess.

Josh Ritter and the Royal City Band @ Rough Trade
Rootsy singer-songwriter Josh Ritter released his new album, Sermon on the Rocks, last week and plays this intimate record release party tonight.

Duke Dumont @ Terminal 5
Of all the pop-house songs that quickly came in the wake of Disclosure’s fame, Duke Dumont’s “Need U (100%)” was one of the best. He makes the jump to the large Terminal 5 tonight.

Spencer Radcliffe, Pinegrove, Emily Reo, Cuddle Formation @ Palisades
Two recent Run For Cover signees, the Microphones-y Spencer Radcliffe and crunchy/poppy indie rockers Pinegrove, come together for this show. Emily Reo (who just played the BV/Collect CMJ showcase as a member of Foxes In Fiction) and her past collaborator Cuddle Formation open.

Kylesa, Inter Arma, Indian Handcrafts, Irata @ Monty Hall
Two bands who bring a strong psychedelic element to the genre, Kylesa and Inter Arma, team up for this. And the sludgy Indian Handcrafts are absolutely worth catching too. They played NYC last night, and tonight they’re nearby in Jersey City. Update: Irata dropped off due to medical issues.
