Black Sabbath

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Black Sabbath, Rival Sons @ Madison Square Garden
Metal as we know it wouldn’t exist without Black Sabbath, whose early records with Ozzy are absolute classics of the genre. They’re saying this is their last-ever tour, so don’t miss the chance to see them while you still can. After tonight’s show, they play MSG again on Saturday and then Jones Beach in the summer.

Jazz Cartier, Ro Ransom, G4shi, Dre Prince @ SOB’s
Toronto rapper Jazz Cartier earned a few comparisons to his neighbor Drake early on, but he’s been gradually coming into his own too. He’s on the rise, so catch him now before he’s playing way bigger venues.

Doug Tuttle, Herbcraft @ Rough Trade
Onetime Mmoss singer Doug Tuttle will just released new album, It Calls on Me, via Trouble in Mind, that’s steeped in mushroom tea psychedelia with lush harmonies, memorable songs and warm, spot-on production. Like Woods? Check out Doug.

Jimi Tents, Justin Rose, Venture Cook @ The Studio at Webster Hall
Local rapper Jimi Tents has been deservedly picking up a lot of buzz for his instantly-impressive debut 5 O’Clock Shadow. Tonight he plays his first headlining hometown show (rescheduled from January).

House Party with Funk Flex, Playboi Carti, LIL UZI VERT, DJ Soul, Electric Punanny, Va$htie @ Webster Hall
Rising Philly rapper recently collaborated with Awful Records/A$AP associate Playboi Carti on the banging single “Left Right,” and they’re currently on tour together. This is their second of two NYC shows.

The Soul Rebels ft. Big Freedia, Natasha Diggs @ Brooklyn Bowl
New Orleans brass band The Soul Rebels kick off a three-night run at Brooklyn Bowl tonight with different (and exciting) guests each night. Tonight has bounce queen Big Freedia, who just made an appearance on Beyonce’s new single and dropped a very catchy single of her own.

Pantha Du Prince @ Verboten (album listening party)
German electronic musician Pantha Du Prince releases his first solo album in six years this May, and judging by the single, it’s something to look forward to. You don’t have to wait that long to hear it though — there’s a listening party in Brooklyn tonight.

Jason Isbell, Shovels & Rope @ Beacon Theatre
Jason Isbell just picked up two Grammys — Best Roots Song for “24 Frames” and Americana Album of the Year for Something More Than Free — and plays this sold-out show tonight.

Seu Jorge @ Blue Note
Best known here in America for acting in City of God and The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou (which he scored using only acoustic, Portuguese-language David Bowie covers), but Brazilian artist Seu Jorge has been making music since the ’90s. This is part of his 10-night run at the Blue Note.

Perry Serpa, Mark Eitzel @ Mercury Lounge
The American Music Club frontman plays solo this evening for what he’s promising to be a special night. This is a late show (9:30 doors) but Mark is on first with The Sharp Things’ Perry Serpa following.

Sunflower Bean, Honduras, Future Punx @ Bowery Ballroom
For a while, Brooklyn psych-rock band Sunflower Bean played so often you had to go out of your way to miss them. They’ve graduated to bigger rooms now that they’re on Fat Possum who just released their debut album, Human Ceremony.

The Big Pink, The Heirs @ Baby’s All Right
UK duo The Big Pink are back with a new EP of anthemic dancerock. This is their first NYC show in a while.

Bambara, The Men, Hubble, Pill @ Palisades
Brooklyn trio Bambara make swaggering, pitch-black, howling rock in the mould of Swans, The Birthday Party and The Gun Club. The band celebrate the release of thier second album, Swarm, tonight and the whole bill is pretty stacked.

EZTV, ACES @ Levi’s Store
It’s an all-caps free show at Williamsburg’s new Levi’s Store, headlined by Brooklyn’s jangly EZTV.

Salt-N-Pepa, Coolio, Color Me Badd, Tone Loc, Kid N Play, Rob Base @ Wellmont Theater
If the late ’80s and early ’90s is your favorite era of hip hop and R&B this show will likely be a nonstop hit-parade. 8-Ball jackets and fades not required.

Mike Birbiglia @ The Lynn Redgrave Theater
Comedian Mike Birbiglia has been doing his show “Thank God for the Jokes” for nearly two years. He’s finally putting it to bed, but not before this six-week run.

Brooke Van Poppelen Headlines A Basement! Hosted by Maria Heinegg feat. Seaton Smith, Giulia Rozzi @ Union Hall
You may know Brooke Van Poppelen as the host of “Hack My Life” on truTV, but as a stand-up she’s practically peerless.

Graham Nash (in conversation with Budd Mishkin) @ 92Y
Legendary songwriter Graham Nash will release his first solo album in 14 years this April and tour in support of it too. He plays NYC in May, but first he’s giving a conversation here tonight about “his varied music career spanning the past five decades and his new solo record.”

For all of tonight’s shows, and tomorrow’s, check out our NYC concert calendar.

For laughs, check out the NYC Comedy calendar too.
