King Krule at Riviera Theatre
King Krule in Chicago last week (more by James Richards IV)

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

King Krule @ Hammerstein Ballroom
Archy Marshall and crew wrap up their North American tour with their biggest NYC show yet.

Men I Trust, Crumb, MIKE, Beshken @ NYU’s Strawberry Festival
It’s the annual NYU Strawberry Festival, which goes down from noon to 4:30 PM and is free and open to the public. It’s got a cool, eclectic lineup with Montreal dream pop band Men I Trust and three local acts: jazzy pop band Crumb, experimental rapper MIKE, and electronic musician Beshken.

David J, Twin Guns @ Berlin
Former bassist for Bauhaus and Love & Rockets, David J has also released a handful of solo records that lean towards dark folk.

John Maus @ Deno’s Wonder Wheel at Coney Island
This Red Bull Music Festival event should be interesting: “John Maus will be bringing his visceral and haunting take on synth-pop to Coney Island for what he’s calling The Sucrose Plane: an event where he will perform with his band as well as compose music to play within select rides at Deno’s Wonder Wheel Park.” The night also features performances by Tommy Wright III, Geneva Jacuzzi, Superstar & Star, Gary War, and Maraschino — plus the weather is ideal.  6 PM – Midnight.

Charles Atlas, Julianna Barwick, Jodi Melnick, Johanna Constantine, DANCENOISE, Laurie Berg, The Illustrious Blacks, Solo Termite @ The Kitchen
“Charles Atlas stages ‘The Kitchen Follies,’ bringing together a range of artists across performance art, dance, and music to stage the ultimate performance art variety show. Some are artists with whom Atlas has had relationships for many decades, including composer Julianna Barwick who will create a new work in collaboration with Jodi Melnick, performance artist Johanna Constantine, duo DANCENOISE, and choreographer Stanley Love.”

Flat Worms, Honey, Pale Joyride @ Union Pool
Los Angeles trio Flat Worms make cinderblock-on-the-accelerator punk for Vespa riders who dig Godard and Truffaut, and who wouldn’t hesitate to trash the place… but would come back the next morning to help clean up.

Alejandro Escovedo, Kris Gruen @ White Eagle Hall
Roots rock and cowpunk vet Alejandro Escovedo is making an all-out assault on NYC this month, playing a ton of shows at small venues all over the city…and in this case one just outside the city.

Springsteen on Broadway
The Boss continues his sold-out “Springsteen on Broadway” run at the Walter Kerr Theatre, which has now been extended through December. At these shows, Bruce is giving fans shows “that are as personal and as intimate as possible.”Electric Wizard, Cough @ PlayStation Theater

Electric Wizard, Cough @ PlayStation Theater
UK doom legends Electric Wizard returned last year with the very solid Wizard Bloody Wizard, which is another fine dose of their trippy, slowed down Sabbath worship. They don’t do a whole lot of touring, so any chance to see them is very worth taking. Tonight they’re in NYC with Cough, who worship at the same Sabbathian altar as Electric Wizard and whose latest album was produced by Electric Wizard’s Jus Oborn.

Steve Martin, Martin Short @ Beacon Theatre
Legendary comedians (and two-thirds of The Three Amigos!) Steve Martin and Martin Short have been taking their longstanding rapport on the road for a musical comedy revue they jokingly call “An Evening You Will Forget for the Rest of Your Life.” This is the first of two Beacon Theatre shows.

Soccer Mommy, Long Beard, gobbinjr @ Rough Trade
Soccer Mommy‘s Fat Possum debut Clean is one of the most enjoyable indie pop albums of the year, and she continues to tour like crazy in support of it. This is her second of two headlining shows in NYC this week, and she’ll be back to open for Liz Phair in early June and to open for Paramore in late June.

Haim, Lizzo @ Radio City Music Hall
The ever-popular Haim are touring behind last year’s Something To Tell You, with energetic rapper Lizzo opening. Tonight’s their first of two Radio City shows.

Loma, Jess Williamson @ Baby’s All Right
Loma is the new project of Shearwater frontman (and former Okkervil River member) Jonathan Meiburg and Cross Record members Emily Cross and Dan Duszynski, and if you like either or both of those bands, you’ll probably like their self-titled debut album (out now on Sub Pop) too. Tonight’s their first NYC show since its release.

Camila Cabello, Bazzi @ Terminal 5
Camila Cabello’s “Havana” is one of the most undeniable pop songs in recent memory, and she’s quickly gotten very popular, which probably means Terminal 5 is the smallest NYC show she’ll play for a while. Opening is Bazzi, who makes Weeknd/Drake-ish R&B and who will also probably be headlining a place like Terminal 5 soon.

Sporting Life, Yaman Palak, Ghost Piss @ H0L0
Having just played a Red Bull Music Fest showcase last night with his Ratking groupmate Wiki and a bunch of other cool acts, Sporting Life hits H0l0 tonight.
