What's going on Friday?

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Snapcase, Burn, Primitive Weapons @ Brooklyn Bazaar
Boundary-pushing metalcore vets Snapcase debuted their first new song in 17 years at a hometown show in Buffalo earlier this year, and they’re promising more new music. Tonight’s their first of two Brooklyn shows this weekend — maybe we’ll get more new songs at these shows? Let’s hope. Making this show even more exciting is support from reunited NYHC greats Burn and current local hardcore staples Primitive Weapons.

Melvins, All Souls @ Warsaw
Sludge vets Melvins recently released their new album Pinkus Abortion Technician, which is their first album to ever have two bassists on every song: Redd Kross’ Steve McDonald and Butthole Surfers’ Jeff Pinkus. With Pinkus in the mix, they gave the album an extra Butthole Surfers twist (the title and covers of two Butthole Surfers songs). Melvins are supporting that album on tour now, but they’ll surely play a handful of classics too, and they always crush live.

Smerz, Mhysa @ National Sawdust
XL-signed duo Smerz pull from a handful of underground electronic influences, but they also have a delightfully weird pop side. Before they begin their tour opening for Mount Kimbie, they play their own headlining show in NYC tonight.

Braids, Graham Van Pelt, Alexia Avina @ Elsewhere
It’s a Montreal night of electronic music, with the ethereal sounds of Braids, and Graham Van Pelt who you may remember as Miracle Fortress (or his time in Think About Life).

Martin Courtney @ Cafe Carlyle
The Real Estate frontman heads uptown for this residency at tony Manhattan supper club Cafe Carlyle. He’ll be performing songs from his solo debut, Many Moons, and other songs.

Roy Ayers, Jitwam, Carlos Mena @ The Roof at Output
Jazz and soul legend Roy Ayers will literally be bringing good vibes to Output’s roof tonight where everybody loves the sunshine.

Tanya Tagaq, Eva Salina @ Le Poisson Rouge
You will not forget seeing Polaris Prize winner and Inuit throat-singer Tanya Tagaq, whose distinctive pipes are the star.

Josh Rouse, Kate Davis @ The Bell House
Josh Rouse‘s new album, Love in the Modern Age, takes the singer-songwriter in new directions, pulling inspiration from lush ’80s pop like The Blue Nile, Prefab Sprout, and records like Roxy Music’s Avalon and Leonard Cohen’s I’m Your Man.

Chris Forsyth & the Solar Motel Band, Sunwatchers @ Nublu
Chris Forsyth & the Solar Motel Band have a delightfully jammy sound that’s sort of part Grateful Dead, part Television. Tonight they play a hometown show with related band Sunwatchers, who are not to miss.

Gigan, Pyrrhon, Sunless @ Goldsounds
Chicago tech-death staples Gigan are in town with local direct support from the likeminded Pyrrhon.

Trampled By Turtles, Hiss Golden Messenger @ Playstation Theater
Trampled By Turtles headline this show, and if you’re going, we recommend getting there early for the Merge-signed folk rockers Hiss Golden Messenger.

Eric Burdon & the Animals birthday bash @ City Winery
Animals/War vocalist Eric Burdon is 77 years young today and celebrates with this sold out show.

Springsteen on Broadway
The Boss continues his sold-out “Springsteen on Broadway” run at the Walter Kerr Theatre, which has now been extended through December. At these shows, Bruce is giving fans shows “that are as personal and as intimate as possible.”

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Pete International Airport @ White Eagle Hall
Leather, denim, wayfarers, fuzz-bass, heaps of attitude: BRMC hit Jersey City tonght.
