Coachella 2017
Drake at Coachella 2017 by Greg Noire

What's going on Friday?

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Drake, Migos @ MSG
The Drake/Migos tour finally hits NYC tonight for their first of seven shows here. Some are sold out, but there are still tickets available for select nights (and resale tickets for the sold-out nights).

Interpol, Gang Gang Dance, Honduras @ House of Vans
Two big events come together here: Interpol celebrate the release of their new album (out today) and this is the last-ever show at Brooklyn’s House of Vans. If you didn’t get tickets, Interpol’s set is streaming live at 9:45 PM Eastern.

Luna, Acid Dad @ Industry City Courtyard
Luna’s laid back sound is just the kind of music you wanna see outside on a late summer evening. Long may they play.

Boris, Sannhet @ Le Poisson Rouge
Genre-defying heavy band Boris released a great new album and went on a 25th anniversary tour last year, and while they’ve been quieter this year, they are playing a few shows, including NYC tonight. Local post-rockers Sannhet provide support, and they’re not to miss.

Thursday, DeVotchKa @ Asbury Lanes
NJ post-hardcore vets Thursday continue the home-state run of their Full Collapse/War All the Time run. Tonight, they’re playing War All The Time, and support comes from gypsy/cabaret punk vets DeVotchKa.

Wild Pink, Dryjacket, All Talk, Buni Hate Mail @ Trans-Pecos
NYC’s Wild Pink released their very good, heartland indie rock-leaning sophomore album Yolk in the Fur this year on Tiny Engines, and they play a hometown show tonight.

Parrot Dream, Dances, The Natural (Kip of TPOBPAH) @ Union Pool
Formed five years ago in Santiago, Chile, Parrot Dream (Christina Appel and Gonzalo Guerrero) make synthy indiepop with sunny melodies and just a hint of shoegaze. Opening tonight’s show is Kip from The Pains of Being Pure at Heart under his new solo moniker, The Natural.

Annihilation Time, Hank Wood and the Hammerheads, Extended Hell, Barbed Wire, Sister Anne @ Brooklyn Bazaar
Oakland punks Annihilation Time‘s shows are few and far between these days, and they have just a few happening in 2018. This is their first of two in NYC, and there’s direct support from organ-fueled garage punks Hank Wood and the Hammerheads, who are always worth catching too.

Warm Thoughts, Glitterer, Teenage Halloween, Sharkswimmer @ Brooklyn Bazaar (cellar)
Touche Amore and Title Fight are old pals, and right now two of those bands’ side projects are on tour together: Warm Thoughts (Elliot Babin of Touche Amore) and Glitterer (Ned Russin of Title Fight).

Racetraitor, La Armada, Ache, Skull Caster @ Saint Vitus
Chicago political hardcore vets Racetraitor reunited for shows and new music last year (still with drummer Andy Hurley, who has since gotten very famous as a member of Fall Out Boy) and they’ve now got a one-off benefit show happening tonight in support of migrant families detained at the border.

Fishbone, Oxymorrons, Nikhil P. Yerawadekar and Low Mentality, DJ Monk-One @ Brooklyn Bowl
Alt/metal/funk/punk/ska/etc vets Fishbone are back with almost their entire classic lineup (everyone except guitarist Kendall Jones), and they’re on tour now, hitting Brooklyn tonight with indie rap staples Oxymorrons and more.

Golden Dawn Arkestra, SpaceWalker, DJ Sasha @ Elsewhere Rooftop
Ever wish Sun Ra, Sergio Mendes, Os Mutantes, Sly Stone, Sweden’s GOAT, and Up With People were all in a band together? Sure, we all do, but since that not likely to happen (at least on this plane of existence), Texas collective Golden Dawn Arkestra fill that niche pretty well.

Sheila E., Rok One @ Sony Hall
One of Prince’s most talented proteges, Shelia E can just about do it all (she is in particular a great drummer). Experience the glamorous life tonight.

GHE20G0TH1K ft. Gangsta Boo, Total Freedom, Venus X, Mike Q, LSDXOXO @ Sony Hall
Tonight, Sony Hall also hosts a GHE20G0TH1K party with a bunch of regulars from NYC’s underground dance-music scene, and Three 6 Mafia’s Gangsta Boo.

Scott Thompson @ Joe’s Pub
Comedian and actor Scott Thompson revives one of his most famous Kids in the Hall characters, lounge lizard Buddy Cole, for an “evening of humorous monologues from the period the show went off the air in 1995 to the present day.”

Aaron West & The Roaring Twenties, Just Surrender, Steady Hands, We Were Sharks @ Bowery Ballroom
While The Wonder Years have been touring like crazy all year, tonight frontman Dan Campbell takes the time to play a one-off with his folkier Aaron West & the Roaring Twenties project.

Janelle Monae @ Samsung 837
Samsung is celebrating the launch of the new Galaxy Note9 at this event, which has live music from Janelle Monae.

Springsteen on Broadway
The Boss continues his sold-out “Springsteen on Broadway” run at the Walter Kerr Theatre, which has now been extended through December. At these shows, Bruce is giving fans shows “that are as personal and as intimate as possible.”
