What's going on Friday?

FYF Fest 2017 - Sunday
Ty Segall @ FYF Fest 2017 (more)

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Arca (DJ) @ 99 Scott Ave
Arca makes adventurous electronic music on his own and as a collaborator of Bjork, Kanye West, Frank Ocean, and others. Tonight, he’s DJing in Brooklyn.

Kelly Moran @ Future Space
NYC experimental composer Kelly Moran just released her first album for Warp, Ultraviolet, and she celebrates with two release shows, which will feature immersive visual design by Dave & Gabe. This is night two.

A$AP Ferg @ Invisible Phone Repair
A$AP Ferg is bigger than ever thanks to the massive success of “Plain Jane,” and he’s staying just as busy as usual on the live show circuit. This is his first of three NYC shows this month.

NY Comedy Festival
The 2018 New York Comedy Festival is underway at venues all over the city and things kick into high gear tonight with “Harmontown,” Tig Notaro, Jo Koy, Anthony Jeselnik, Jo Firestone hosting gameshow ‘Zingers!,’ “Throwing Shade,” “Running Late with Scott Rogowski,” and lots more.

Yaeji, Victoria Sin & Shy One, NK Badtz-Maru, Phoneg1rl @ Knockdown Center
Yaeji brings her “One More” tour to Knockdown Center for this sold-out show where she’ll be performing in-the-round.

Ty Segall, William Tyler @ Warsaw
Despite Ty performing solo acoustic at this show, we predict there will still be crowd-surfers.

Elton John @ Madison Square Garden
Elton John is saying a very long goodbye with a farewell tour that will have included 12 NYC-area shows by fall of 2019. As you’d probably expect, he’s loading his setlists with hits and bringing a spectacular stage show.

Four Fists, Shiftee, Angel Davenport @ Rough Trade
Four Fists, the collaborative project of P.O.S and Astronautalis, put out a single back in 2013 and now they finally released their first full-length album, 6666, last month. This is their first NYC show since its release.

The Joy Formidable, Tancred @ Music Hall of Williamsburg
Alt-rockers The Joy Formidable are back out on the road and they’ve got a pretty cool opener, Polyvinyl-signed indie rocker Tancred.

Kadhja Bonet, Little Kruta @ National Sawdust
Kadhja Bonet followed her great 2016 debut album The Visitor this year with Childqueen and an accompany three-song EP, both of which are cut from the same vintage psychedelic soul cloth as her debut.

Horrendous, Tomb Mold, Daeva @ Saint Vitus
After releasing a string of beloved old school death metal-reviving albums, Horrendous took their sound into new territories for this year’s Idol, their best album yet. They’re on the road now with a newer hyped death metal band, Tomb Mold.

Single Mothers, Smile of a Smirk, Caravela, The Hot Flood @ The Kingsland
Single Mothers surprise-released their new album Through A Wall this past September, and it’s the closest to breakneck-speed ’80s hardcore that they’ve ever come.

Cannibal Corpse, Hate Eternal, Harms Way @ White Eagle Hall
This is a cool bill all around, with death metal veterans Cannibal Corpse and Hate Eternal, and comparatively newer hardcore/nu metal/industrial crushers Harms Way.

Bob Weir + Wolf Bros @ The Capitol Theatre
Bob Weir’s new trio Wolf Bros (Bobby plus Jay Lane and Don Was) are on the road re-imagining Grateful Dead classics in a stripped-down setting. They play the Cap tonight and tomorrow, and then Beacon Theatre next weekend.

John Nolan, Heavy Vessel, Destry @ Union Pool
Taking Back Sunday guitarist/secondary vocalist and Straylight Run frontman John Nolan just released his new solo album Abendigo and it’s most adventurous, most consistently appealing album in years. He’s supporting it on a full-band tour, which lands in NYC tonight with Heavy Vessel (members of Thursday, From Autumn to Ashes, Primitive Weapons) and Destry (the project of John’s sister/former Straylight Run bandmate Michelle DaRosa). With both John and Michelle on the bill, will they do any Straylight Run songs together?

Yelle @ Baby’s All Right
Amidst her three-show run at Elsewhere, French dancepop artist Yelle plays this post-Midnight show at Baby’s, part of their fifth anniversary.

Anemone, Brian Hill, Miranda & the Beat @ Berlin
Montreal’s Anemone makes danceable psych-pop that pulls from everything from Stereolab and Broadcast to Tom Tom Club and Saint Etienne.

Edie Brickell and the New Bohemians @ Irving Plaza
Edie Brickell & New Bohemians, whose debut LP (which features the hit “What I Am”) turned 30 this year, released new album Rocket this year as well.

Mary Chapin Carpenter, Laura Cortese & the Dance Cards @ The Appel Room at Jazz at Lincoln Center
Mary Chapin Carpenter celebrates her acclaimed 30-year recording career by performing songs from her newest album Sometimes Just The Sky, featuring new interpretations of her most beloved songs…all against one of the most spectacular backdrops in New York City.

Springsteen on Broadway
The Boss continues his sold-out “Springsteen on Broadway” run at the Walter Kerr Theatre, which runs through December. At these shows, Bruce is giving fans shows “that are as personal and as intimate as possible.”
