What’s going on Friday?

Bikini Kill
Bikini Kill back in the day

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Bikini Kill, Palberta @ Brooklyn Steel
After a twenty year absence, Bikini Kill are back and, following four LA shows earlier this spring, they kick off their four-show NYC run tonight. We’re psyched.

Governors Ball 2019 @ Randall’s Island
The annual NYC fest Governors Ball kicks off today at Randall’s Island Park, with Tyler, The Creator, Lil Wayne, and Brockhampton serving as headliners, alongside tons of other exciting acts including Mitski, Blood Orange, The Internet, Jorja Smith, Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever, The Voidz, and more.

Youssou N’Dour @ BAM: Brooklyn Academy of Music
Senegalese singer and world music icon Youssou N’Dour stops in Brooklyn as part of a two-night stand at BAM, accompanied by his backing band the Super Étoile de Dakar; this is night one.

Kevin Morby, Sam Cohen @ Town Hall
Kevin Morby hits Town Hall tonight supporting his ambitious new LP Oh My God, with opener Sam Cohen, who also plays in Kevin’s backing band.

Aaron West & The Roaring Twenties, pronoun, Diva Sweetly @ Brooklyn Bazaar
The Wonder Years singer Dan Campbell is touring with his Aaron West & The Roaring Twenties project throughout the spring, promoting new album Routine Maintenance. Tonight’s show features a pair of great openers: Brooklyn singer-songwriter Pronoun (whose new LP dropped last week), and North Carolina punks Diva Sweetly.

Noname @ Brooklyn Bowl
Ahead of her Governors Ball set on Sunday, rapper and poet Noname, who is teasing a follow up to last year’s great Room 25, plays this very intimate show at Brooklyn Bowl as part of the GovBall After Dark series.

Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever, Flasher, RVG @ Warsaw
Aussie jangle rockers Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever made a splash in 2018 with their great debut LP Hope Downs, and after their GovBall set earlier in the day, they’ll head over to Warsaw for this GovBall After Dark show featuring Australian neighbors RVG, and DC band Flasher.

Ian Hunter and The Rant Band @ City Winery
Following a tour earlier this year with the 1974 lineup of Mott The Hoople, singer Ian Hunter is celebrating his 80th birthday with a run of solo City Winery shows, which kicks off tonight.

L7, Le Butcherettes @ Elsewhere
Reunited grunge greats L7 play their first of two shows at Elsewhere behind this year’s Scatter The Rats (their first album in 20 years), with very solid openers Le Butcherettes.

Tav Falco’s Panther Burns, The Tall Pines @ (le) poisson rouge
Rockabilly legend Tav Falco brings his latest incarnation of Panther Burns to LPR tonight, where they’ll play songs across his deep discography.

Daughter @ Market Hotel
While we wait for Daughter to announce a follow-up to 2016’s Not To Disappear, they’ll play an intimate show at Market Hotel, where you might expect to hear some new material.

The Underachievers @ Mercury Lounge
The Underachievers recently released an album as part of the Beast Coast supergroup (with Pro Era and Flatbush Zombies), but they’ll play a special GovBall After Dark show on their own.

Jamila Woods, Nitty Scott @ Music Hall of Williamsburg
Chicago soul singer Jamila Woods released the stunning LEGACY! LEGACY! earlier this month, which boldly celebrated black excellence, and she’ll bring those songs to Music Hall of Williamsburg tonight.

Slough Feg, Sanhedrin @ Saint Vitus Bar
Long-running trad-metal revivalists Slough Feg play Saint Vitus as part of their current East Coast tour, with Brooklyn-based band Sanhedrin.

Yanni @ Lunt-Fontanne Theatre
Composer and new age megastar Yanni has played the Acropolis but gets up close and personal with this Broadway run at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre (which recently hosted Morrissey), where he’ll perform stripped-down piano renditions of his PBS favorites, plus stories about his long career and creative process, and an audience Q&A.
