Robyn’s shows are mass sing-along dance parties which goes a long way toward making an arena show like this feel very special. Making it even better, she’s tapped NYC post-punk/no-wave icons ESG to open.

Don’t want the Robyn party to end after the show? Head to Brooklyn Bowl for this “Night Of All Robyn Everything.” Who knows, she might even show up.
black midi @ 314 Canal
UK experimental math rockers black midi recently released their very good, Dan Carey-produced debut album Schlagenheim on Rough Trade Records, and it’s one of the first records of its kind to be met with near-universal acclaim in a very long time. The band continues to rise, and they’re back in NYC for their second of two shows this week. They’ll also be back for a larger show at Warsaw in November.This show is free, 4 PM. “Just show up.”
Burna Boy, Sampa The Great, DJ Tunez @ Prospect Park
The free BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! Festival shows continues tonight with an awesome double fill featuring two Africa-based artists, Afro-fusion singer Burna Boy and genre-bending rapper Sampa The Great. Both have new albums due later this year, so hopefully they’ll play some new stuff tonight.
Equiknoxx, Epic B, Uninamise, Blazer Sound @ The Cabana
Forward-thinking Jamaican collective Equiknoxx — Shanique Marie, Bobby Blackbird, Gavsborg, Kemikal and Time Cow — just released their third album, Eternal Children. It’s their first vocal album, following two released on Demdike Stare’s DDS label and it mixes hip hop, dancehall, traditional reggae and pop but defies easy categorization.
Fujiya & Miyagi, Glassio @ Elsewhere Hall
It’s a bit surprising to think that Fujiya & Miyagi have been together for nearly 20 years — it does not seem that long — and have pretty much stayed in the funky motorik krautrock disco style they perfected on 2006’s Transparent Things. And yet that sound remains evergreen on their subsequent records, including their just-released sixth album, Flashback.
Mekons, Fond Farewells @ Music Hall of Williamsburg
OG punks Mekons have dabbled in everything from reggae to dance music but have settled on twangy sound over the last 20 years that befits their iconic status. One of the great bands of the last 40 years and always worth seeing.
Dave Chappelle @ Lunt Fontanne Theatre
Dave Chappelle hasn’t toned things down for his Broadway debut, which runs through July 20. As is usually the case at Chappelle shows, no phones.
Khemmis, Cloak @ Saint Vitus
This is a killer double bill with two very different types of metal bands. Khemmis pull from traditional doom metal with soaring clean vocals, and Cloak deliver harsh black metal but with a classic rock twist.
Iron Chic, Toys That Kill, Ramona, Choked Up @ Brooklyn Bazaar
Two great melodic punk bands, Iron Chic and Toys That Kill, are on tour together and landing in Brooklyn tonight. Ramona and Choked Up both make for well-matched support too.
Kevin Seconds, Sammy Kay @ Brooklyn Bazaar
While hardcore legends 7Seconds sadly broke up last year, frontman Kevin Seconds has remained active as a solo artist and he’s now gearing up to tour the East Coast this July. The tour is called “I’ve Come For AVAIL,” because Kevin is literally using the trip as an opportunity to see AVAIL in Richmond.
Prince Daddy & The Hyena, Retirement Party, The Obsessives, Hit Like A Girl @ Asbury Park Brewery
Prince Daddy & the Hyena are on the road supporting their very good DIY punk rock opera Cosmic Thrill Seekers, and they’ve lined up some very likeminded openers. The tour hits Asbury Park tonight and Brooklyn in late August.
Sir Babygirl (reimagining Hole’s music), Jackie Mendoza, Sports Boyfriend @ Trans-Pecos
Normally, Sir Babygirl puts a queer, DIY spin on late ’90s / early ’00s style bubblegum pop, but tonight she’s putting her spin on the music of veteran grunge band Hole.
Pinknic w/ Mark Ronson, Breakbot, Kasbo, Brasstracks, Willy Monfret @ Randall’s Island
NYC’s Randall’s Island will host the rosé and music festival Pinknic today and tomorrow, and today’s headliner is Mark Ronson, who’s fresh off releasing his very good, guest-filled album Late Night Feelings. He’ll be joined during his set by YEBBA, who sings three of the songs on his new album.
Green Velvet Presents La La Land w/ Skream, Latmun, Layton Giordani, Eskuche @ Brooklyn Mirage
Chicago house vet Green Velvet throws a party at Brooklyn Mirage tonight, and the lineup includes dubstep OG Skream and more.
blink-182 @ Central Park (Good Morning America)
If you feel like getting to Central Park at 6 AM today, it’s a chance to see pop punk giants blink-182, who are in the midst of touring Enema of the State for its 20th anniversary and gearing up to release a new album. They’ll perform some songs this morning for Good Morning America.
Nick Hakim, duendita, Zenizen @ Industry City
Raised on DC punk and soul, Nick Hakim has created his own style hazy, fried psych. This show’s part of the City Farm Summer Series.
Amyl and The Sniffers, Nick Cage, Sähd Wyte Guyz @ Market Hotel
Led by firebrand singer Amy Taylor, Australia’s Amyl & The Sniffers will have Market Hotel dripping with sweat tonight.
The Mooney Suzuki, The Realistics @ Mercury Lounge
Before The Strokes, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Interpol there was rip-roaring NYC garage rockers The Mooney Suzuki who help Mercury Lounge celebrate 25 years in business tonight with another group of NYC rock vets, The Realistics.
Collapsing Scenery, Bush Tetras, Zah, Nymph @ Tompkins Square Park
Collapsing Scenery, the button-pushing mixed-media duo of Don Devore (Lilys, Ink & Dagger, The Icarus Line, Amazing Baby) and Reggie Debris, released their album Stress Positions a couple weeks back. It’s quite the gonzo record that mixes post-punk, shoegaze, hip hop, dance music and more into one heady cocktail. Tonight’s the release party for the album and features NYC post-punk legends Bush Tetras. Free!
Dave Harrington’s Merry Pranksters w/ Yuka Honda, Stuart Bogie, Spencer Zahn, Kenny Wollesen, Mauro Refosco, Jeremy Gustin @ Nublu 151
Darkside’s Dave Harrington has put together quite the lineup for this edition of Merry Pranksters, making live dance music.
Kacey Musgraves @ TODAY Plaza (TODAY Show)
Another early morning live concert being taped for TV option this morning is boundary-pushing country singer Kacey Musgraves, who’s still riding high off the strength of last year’s excellent Golden Hour. Her performance is for the TODAY Show.
