What's going on Friday?

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Peter Murphy (performing “Should the World Fail to Fall Apart”) @ (le) poisson rouge
Former Bauhaus frontman Peter Murphy kicks off his 12-night, full-albums show residency at LPR tonight with a performance of his 1986 solo debut, Should the World Fail to Fall Apart.

Torche, Wear Your Wounds, Murderpact @ Brooklyn Bazaar
Torche are one of those bands who stick to a very unique, very appealing formula on each album, only changing it up slightly each time, and this year’s Admission sees them injecting a little shoegaze and some other new sounds into their usual sludge-pop. They’re now on tour with Wear Your Wounds, the more atmospheric post-metal project of Converge frontman J Bannon who just released their great new album Rust on the Gates of Heaven.

Bad Religion, The Explosion @ Webster Hall
Punk lifers Bad Religion recently released their 17th album Age of Unreason, which takes on the Trump administration with the same worldview that they had on their sadly-still-relevant classics like “American Jesus.” Their live show still rips, and their two NYC shows are extra special because they’re the only two on the tour being opened by Boston punks The Explosion, whose shows are pretty rare these days. This is night one of two.

City of Caterpillar, Big No, Coward, Sunrot @ Asbury Park Brewery
Screamo vets City of Caterpillar reunited a couple years ago, but they’ve still only played a handful of shows so this chance to see them is not to miss. They also recently said they’re working on new music… maybe they’ll play a new song or two tonight?

Cayetana, Katie Ellen, Bacchae @ Music Hall of Williamsburg
Philly’s Cayetana have been staples of the indie-punk for a while now, but they’re sadly calling it quits. Luckily, they’re doing one more tour before they say goodbye, and that tour has them in Brooklyn tonight. Well-matched openers too.

Sarah McLachlan, The New York Pops @ Forest Hills Stadium
A stadium may not be your idea of “An Intimate Evening with Sarah McLachlan,” but Forest Hills does have a cozy feel to it and this show, where she’ll be backed by the New York Pops, should be special.

RJD2, Jackie Mendoza @ Industry City
Veteran producer and skilled crate-digger RJD2 is as diverse as his record collection, mixing classic hip hop, krautrock, and more into his quiltwork, collage sound.

Gabby’s World, Bellows, Thelma, Don’t @ ALPHAVILLE
Gabby’s World (fka Eskimeaux) brings their delicate brand of bedroom pop to Alphaville tonight.

Ben Folds, Violent Femmes @ Stone Pony
While Violent Femmes are more associated with the ’80s and Ben Folds with the ’90s, together they’ve got enough classics to keep the crowd singing along all night.

Nosaj Thing (DJ Set), Kimbra, Bells Atlas @ Prospect Park Bandshell
The free BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! Festival shows in Prospect Park continue tonight with a DJ set from hip hop producer Nosaj Thing, a live set from art pop singer Kimbra, and more.

Ada Lea, Absolutely Yours, Clara Joy, Alyssa McDoom @ Union Pool
Saddle Creek has been on a roll with new signings lately, and one of their latest is Ada Lea, whose debut album what we say in private should appeal to fans of anything from Iron & Wine to Phoebe Bridgers.

Mozzy, ALLBLACK, Lil Poppa @ Gramercy Theatre
Fast-rising West Coast rappers Mozzy and ALLBLACK are on tour together, and that great double bill hits NYC tonight. Lil Poppa, who appeared on one of Mozzy’s recent singles, opens.

Mauno, Common Holly @ Trans-Pecos
Two Montreal art pop acts, Mauno and Common Holly, are on tour together and hitting NYC tonight. Mauno’s new album Really Well is out today, and Common Holly’s anticipated Barsuk debut When I say to you Black Lightning Comes out in October.

MNDSGN, Pink Siifu @ Elsewhere Rooftop
Stones Throw producer MNDSGN has made beats for Danny Brown, Quelle Chris, Jonwayne, Doja Cat, and more, and tonight he comes to Elsewhere’s roof for a sold-out show. Avant-rapper Pink Siifu opens and is not to miss.
