What's going on Friday?

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Alex Lahey, Kingsbury @ Music Hall of Williamsburg
Alex Lahey is touring behind her solid sophomore LP The Best of Luck Club, which continues her streak of crafting melodic, infectious indie rock tunes.

Why?, Barrie @ Elsewhere
Yoni Wolf’s longtime project WHY? released the ambitious visual album AOKOHIO earlier this month, and they’ll support the album at tonight’s show, which also features support from Brooklyn dream pop band Barrie.

Beast Coast @ Pier 17
Beast Coast — the NYC rap supergroup featuring Flatbush Zombies, The Underachievers, Joey Bada$$ and other Pro Era members — released their very fun debut album Escape From New York earlier this year, and tonight they’re back in New York for the last of two hometown shows at Pier 17.

JK Flesh (Justin Broadrick of Jesu), Confines, No Dawn, Moral Extrication @ Saint Vitus Bar
Godflesh’s Justin Broadrick performs under his JK Flesh guise at Saint Vitus tonight as part of a Hospital Productions takeover, which lasts throughout the weekend.

The Alarm, Modern English, Gene Loves Jezebel @ The Paramount
It’s a triple bill of ’80s alt rock, including anthemic Welsh rockers The Alarm, swoony post-punks Modern English, and Jay Aston’s lineup of goths-turned-hard-rock-band Gene Loves Jezebel.

Oso Oso, The Sidekicks, Future Teens @ Bowery Ballroom
This is a pretty solid bill of three bands in the indie/emo/punk orbit, headlined by Oso Oso who are fresh off releasing their acclaimed new album Basking in the Glow.

Varukers, Demencia Alkoholika, Extended Hell, Fuga, Disassociate, Lakras, UFC @ Brooklyn Bazaar
British punks The Varukers have been going strong since 1979 (save for a brief hiatus in the late ’80s/early ’90s), and they’ve touched on everything from classic style ’70s punk to street punk to D-beat to hardcore throughout their career. The band — still led by founding vocalist Anthony “Rat” Martin and longtime guitarist Ian “Biff” Smith — put out their latest album, Damned and Defiant, in 2017, and as you can tell from that LP, they’ve much still got it.

Goldlink (DJ), DJ Miles, Bambii, Gvijin, Amrit, Odalys, DJ Marauder, Proper Edakit @ Schimanski
DC rapper GoldLink has a busy year, thanks to his great new album Diaspora, an upcoming tour with Tyler, the Creator, and Afropunk this weekend. Ahead of Afropunk, he DJs this Boiler Room-presented show tonight.

This Is Hell, Crater, Become One, Perfect World @ The Kingsland
Long Island melodic hardcore greats This Is Hell haven’t released a new album in three years, and they don’t tour much these days, but they are still active and they’re hitting Brooklyn tonight.

Lizzo @ Today Plaza
Lizzo’s meteoric rise to fame is showing no signs of slowing down thanks to this year’s Cuz I Love You, and she’ll give a free morning performance in NYC today for the TODAY Show.
