The Appleseed Cast

What's going on Friday?

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Basilica Soundscape @ Basilica Hudson
The 2019 edition of Basilica Soundscape in Hudson, NY get underway tonight with Low, Greg Fox, Dilly Dally, Circuits Des Yeux, CRICKETS (JD Samson, Roddy Bottum), Jerusalem in My Heart, and more.

Joanna Newsom @ El Museo del Barrio
It’s been four years since Joanna Newsom put out her last LP, Divers, and no concrete sign of new music at the moment, but she’s in the midst of a seven-night NYC run playing plenty of old favorites. Joanna Newsom shows are truly entrancing, and going the videos we saw of night one, these are no different.

James Murphy (DJ set), The Black Madonna (DJ set) @ Knockdown Center
James Murphy has been laying low, musically, lately (but he’s just about to open a new place, Night Moves, in Williamsburg) but tonight he’ll be spinning all night long with The Black Madonna.

Fastball, Jill Sobule @ Le Poisson Rouge
It’s a double dose of ’90s alt rock, with “The Way” singes Fastball and Jill Sobule (who kissed a girl long before Katy Perry).

Tinder Live! w/ David Cross, Mike Drucker @ Littlefield
Dating is terrible and trying to come up with witty things to say on Tinder is tough even for the most clever of us. This live show offers help from actual comedians, tonight Davide Cross and Mike Drucker.

Chris Forsyth, Steve Wynn, Linda Pitmon @ Nublu 151
Chris Forsyth’s September residency at Nublu continues tonight with The Dream Syndicate’s Steve Wynn and Linda Pitmon as special guests.

The Appleseed Cast, Muscle Worship @ WFMU Monty Hall
Post-rock/emo vets The Appleseed Cast returned this year with The Fleeting Light of Impermanence, which is easily their best album in years, one that recalls their glory days but still looks forward.

The Armed, Dalek, Thought Crimes @ Saint Vitus
The Armed are a chaotic, mysterious, and alluring hardcore band like few others, and it’s no surprise that they’ve been on the rise. Tonight they come to NYC with direct support from industrial rap greats Dalek.

Kayo Dot, Cleric, Queen Elephantine @ The Kingsland
Experimental metal and more band Kayo Dot are fresh off releasing their very good new album Blasphemy on Prophecy Productions, and they celebrate in their hometown tonight with two well-matched support acts.
