What's going on Friday?

FKA twigs @ Pitchfork 2016 (more by Ben Stas)

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Panorama Festival @ Randall’s Island
NYC’s inaugural Panorama Festival begins today and the schedule is loaded with great acts. Tonight’s the first Arcade Fire show in NYC in a few years, the first Broken Social Scene show in even more years, Schoolboy Q (who just released an excellent new album), White Lung (ditto), Alabama Shakes, FKA twigs, Madlib, and more.

Kamaiyah, Jimi Tents, Trapo, Khary @ Baby’s All Right
Kamaiyah’s on not one but two of the year’s most fun rap songs: her own “How Does It Feel” and YG’s “Why You Always Hatin?” (with Drake). She plays NYC three times this month, this being the first. Good openers too, especially rising local rapper Jimi Tents.

Maria Usbeck, Godxss, Greem Jellyfish @ Babycastles
Former Selebritites singer Maria Usbeck made a honey of a solo debut, lush like a rainforest, entirely in Spanish, including a lovely cover of Colourbox’s “Tarantula.” Live, Usbeck beguiles…sometimes from a comfy hammock.

Connections, Summer Saints, Dirty Blondes @ Cake Shop
Columbus, OH band Connections are masters of ’90s college radio style indie rock and have been doing it for most of this decade, cranking out records at Pollard-ian speed. It’s always great to catch them at Cake Shop.

Louis C.K. @ Forest Hills Stadium
Once an underground sensation, Louis CK has become one of the biggest comedians in America — by doing it his way.

Nellie McKay @ (le) poisson rouge
Nelli McKay’s performances are unpredictable, but always charming

Tyondai Braxton, Zs, Mary Lattimore @ National Sawdust
Former Battles vocalist Tyondai Braxton continues to crank out off-kilter songs under his own name. This is a good bill of experimental music all around.

Jon Batiste and Stay Human @ Prospect Park Bandshell BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! Festival
Bandleader for The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Jon Batiste is a very popular New Orleans musician in his own right. He’ll bring the good vibes to this free Celebrate Brooklyn! show tonight.

GOGGS (Ty Segall/Ex-Cult), Surfbort, Cheena @ Rough Trade
GOGGS is the trio of Ty Segal, Ex-Cult singer Chris Shaw, and past Ty collaborator Charles Moothart. They make a sludgy racket, and tonight’s their first of two NYC shows this weekend. Don’t miss openers Cheena.

Wilful Boys, Obnox, Foster Care, Unknown Sender @ Union Pool
It’s a night of killer garage rock, featuring Ohio’s Obnox, Aussie ex-pats Wilful Boys, underrated Brooklynites Foster Care and more.

The Fleshtones, Dirty Fences, Paul Collins’ Beat, Big Huge @ WFMU Monty Hall
The Fleshtones have been bringing Super Rock to the people for over 30 years and are amazingly indefatigable, with guitarist Keith Streng still a master of the flying leap. They headline this show that also includes power pop legend Paul Collins.

Eddie Izzard @ Beacon Theatre
British comedy institution Eddie Izzard brings back his acclaimed “Force Majeure” tour to Beacon Theatre for two nights.

Haybaby, Veneer, Bichkraft, Unstoppable Death Machines, Dead Tenants @ Shea Stadium
Visa issues kept dark Ukranian postpunk act Bichkraft from visiting Brooklyn during Northside Fest but they are finally in the city.

Breanna Barbara, Roya, Boytoy, Casey Hopkins @ Berlin
Breanna Barbara’s new album comes out today and it’s a nice dose of swaggering, attitude-filled blues.
