Los Campesinos
Los Campesinos!

What's going on Friday?

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Los Campesinos!, Crying @ Warsaw
Los Campesinos! sound as highly spirited as ever on this year’s Sick Scenes. They’re on tour now with the prog/pop/punk/everything band Crying, whose sound pairs very well with LC!.

clipping, Jason Forrest @ Rough Trade
In between opening for The Flaming Lips at Terminal 5 (last night) and on Long Island (tomorrow), experimental rap group clipping. play their own smaller show in Brooklyn tonight.

Sam Patch, Miles Francis @ Mercury Lounge
While we anxiously await Arcade Fire’s followup to Reflektor, many of the members have been working on other projects. Tim Kingsbury recently released his debut album as Sam Patch, which also features Arcade Fire drummer Jeremy Gara. Tonight he brings Sam Patch’s live show to NYC.

Jose Gonzalez @ The Appel Room
Jose Gonzalez’s delicate fretwork and hushed vocals cry out for an intimate venue — The Appel Room, with it’s gorgeous backdrop of Columbus Circle, should do the trick. Part of Lincoln Center’s American Songbook series.

The Parrots, Stuyedeyed, Comatides @ Sunnyvale
This is the first U.S. show from Madrid’s The Parrots who make highly spirited rock n’ roll. They’re besties with Hinds, and may whip the crowd into a similar frenzy.

DMX, 1 Shot Dealz @ BB King’s
The most highly-anticipated DMX show of the year is the big Ruff Ryders reunion at Barclays Center in April, which has X teaming back up with Eve, Swizz Beatz, The LOX, and Drag-On. First, though, he plays a much smaller NYC show tonight.

Vanessa Carlton @ City Winery (early and late shows)
Vanessa Carlton’s early 2000s pop hits were always a little on the “alternative” side, and with 2015’s Liberman she made an excellent record that’s a pretty noticeable departure from her pop days. She’s since followed that with two live releases, Liberman Live and the more recent Earlier Things Live, which re-interprets some of her early hits to fit her newer style.

John Andrews & The Yawns, Cut Worms, Lina Tullgren @ Berlin
You may know John Andrews as the drummer in Quilt or the keyboardist in Woods but he also makes music on his own. While still in the realm of folky pop/rock, The Yawns (which also features Quilt’s Keven Lareau) don’t really sound like either of Andrews’ other bands. Tonight’s the record release show for their new album Bad Posture which is out on Woodsist.

So Hideous, Tiger Flowers, Meek Is Murder, Dead Empires, Hogwasche @ Saint Vitus
MetalSucks celebrates its 10th anniversary at this show, with some of the better local metal bands around.

Divine Council @ Baby’s All Right
Richond, Virginia rap group Divine Council collaborated with Andre 3000 on their 2016 debut EP Council World and they’ve also won over Erykah Badu. They were recently in NYC opening the Young Thug / 21 Savage tour, and tonight they play their first-ever headlining show here.

Dawes @ Beacon Theatre
Folk rockers Dawes are doing an “Evening with Dawes” tour, which has them playing two sets a night. This is their first of two NYC shows.

All Them Witches, Irata @ Bowery Ballroom
Nashville psych rockers All Them Witches returned last month with their latest album, Sleeping Through The War. Tonight they play NYC on their tour in support of it.

Duke Dumont, Dave P @ Output
UK house producer Duke Dumont really took off after his big singles “Need U (100%)” and “I Got U” came out a few years ago, and he remains a staple in the dance-music world.

Kevin Abstract, Romil @ The Studio at Webster Hall
Rapper/singer Kevin Abstract picked up some buzz last year for American Boyfriend: A Suburban Love, and tonight he plays NYC in support of it.

Aficionado, Spill, Cold Sweats, Tongue @ Suburbia
The reunited Aficionado are currently on the road with Lancaster, PA fuzz rockers Spill, who released their very solid debut album Top Ten on No Sleep last year. If you like crunchy ’90s indie rock, Spill may be for you.
