What’s going on Friday?

Sun O)))

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Murphy’s Law, The Minutes, Violent Affair, Drunken Rampage, Nuclear Santa Claust @ Don Pedro
Don Pedro is closing this May, but some cool shows are going down before that, like this St. Patrick’s day gig with NYHC greats Murphy’s Law.

Sunn O))), Big Brave @ Knockdown Center
Sunn O))) have been making a vital blend of doom and drone for years now, most recently on 2015’s great Kannon. (Last year they released a live album too.) They bring their towering live show back to NYC tonight.

Pussy Riot Theatre @ National Sawdust
Pussy Riot member Maria Alyokhina turns her personal story into this multi-media, theatrical piece. Should be interesting.

CJ Ramone, Big Eyes, Vapers @ Bowery Electric
CJ Ramone (Ramones bassist from 1989 – 1996) is now an active solo artist on Fat Wreck Chords, and he’s releasing his new album American Beauty this week. It features an appearance by Kait Eldridge of Big Eyes, who open this show. Maybe Kait will sing with him tonight?

Phil Lesh & Friends @ The Capitol Theatre
There are a handful of Grateful Dead-related bands around right now, and Phil Lesh & Friends are one of the best. Phil and his rotating lineup — which for these shows is vocalist Joan Osborne, guitarists Stanley Jordan and John Kadlecik, keyboardist/multi-instrumentalist Jason Crosby and drummer Mark Levy — do a lot of justice to the Dead classics. Plus, it’s a chance to see Phil sing. Tonight’s their third of three Cap shows this week.

Clap! Clap!, Ensemble Entendu Sunnyvale
Italian producer/musician Cristiano Crisci combines African music with Hip Hop, Footwork, UK Bass and House under the guise of Clap! Clap! as can be heard on his new album A Thousand Skies. This is his NYC debut show.

The 2017 Whitney Biennial opens today. It’s always a Big Deal, and this year includes contributions from Kamasi Washington and Ian Svenonius.

It’s also St. Patrick’s Day which for some people is a reason to not leave the house.
