Alex Lahey at Cheer Up Charlies
Alex Lahey at BV/SOS-presented Lost Weekend in Austin (more by Amanda Hatfield)

What's going on Friday?

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Alex Lahey, Gustaf Axel, Journalism @ Rough Trade
Melbourne, Australia’s Alex Lahey released one of our favorite indie rock debuts of last year with her B-Grade University EP. It’s lyrical, catchy, and it’s got a real strong backbone. She won us over even more in Austin during SXSW last week, and now we’re thrilled to be presenting her first two NYC shows. This is the first. See you there?!

Downtown Boys, Sneaks, Alice Bag @ Baby’s All Right
Political, bilingual, sax-fueled punks Downtown Boys (who recently signed to Sub Pop) have one of the more genuinely moving live shows in underground rock right now. It’s the kind of thing that you just have to see for yourself.

Foxygen, Sunflower Bean, Purr @ Terminal 5
Foxygen made their super-ambitious album, Hang, with a full orchestra and to replicate that live, they’ve got a five-piece horn section as part of the band on this tour. It is an extravaganza to say the least.

SAVAK, Lake Ruth, Gold Muse @ Union Hall
Post punks SAVAK and baroque pop stylists Lake Ruth may not seem to have much in common, but they actually share more than a few members live. They’re both great, too, which makes this a great Friday night option in Park Slope.

Allah-Las, The Babe Rainbow, Roya @ Webster Hall
It’s spring doesn’t feel like it — hopefully Allah-Las will bring some of that SoCal warmth with them.

Fishbone, No Redeeming Social Value, Ache @ Gramercy Theatre
Alt/metal/funk/punk/etc band Fishbone are back with original drummer Fish Fisher (which makes four original members including Angelo Moore, Norwood Fisher, and Walt Kibby), and they’re on touring playing 1996’s Chim Chim’s Badass Revenge in full.

Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith, Deradoorian @ Knockdown Center
This is a pretty great double bill, with electronic artist Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith and pop boundary pusher Deradoorian.

Laura Stevenson, Field Mouse, Soccer Mommy @ (le) poisson rouge
Laura Stevenson’s sound varies from hushed singer/songwriter stuff to driving melodic punk. She just released her first live album, and now she’s on tour. This is her first of two NYC shows on this run.

Iron Chic, GreenSleep, King Pussy Face @ Union Pool
Long Island punk staples Iron Chic always put on a good show and this one will surely be no different. LI vets GreenSleep, who recently reunited, provide direct support.

All Out War, Anicon, Die Choking, Insect Ark @ Saint Vitus
Decibel contributor and Kosmodemonic member Shawn Bosler recently suffered a horrific injury, and this show is to benefit him. The lineup is pretty stacked, so come see some good bands for a good cause.

Crazy Spirit, Haram, Conspiracy, Bull @ Saint Vitus (late show)
Later at Saint Vitus, there’s a benefit for the Council of American Islamic Relations with some cool hardcore bands.

Classixx (DJ Set), LLOYDSKI, Alex Behnke @ American Museum of Natural History
LA dance duo Classixx will spin tonight as part of AMNH’s “One Step Beyond Series.”

Olga Bell @ Lincoln Center
Lincoln Center’s American Songbook Series continues tonight with Olga Bell who’s marriage of classical and arty pop will fit right in at this show’s tony surroundings.

Jo Firestone, Liza Treyger, Music by POWER COUPLE (Kaila Mullady and Mark Martin), After Party w/ DJ Taela Naomi @ Littlefield
Hip hop improv comedy series North Coast is celebrating its 8th Anniversary tonight.

Micky Dolenz @ 54 Below
You know him as a Monkee, but Micky Dolenz has been a stage regular for years, having appeared in such musicals as AIDA (Broadway), Pippin, Hairspray (West End), Grease, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Tom Sawyer and more. Tonight he’ll play selections from both worlds at cabaret club 54 Below (in the cellar of Feinstein’s).
