Lollapalooza 2017 - Saturday
Mac DeMarco in Chicago (photo by James Richards IV)

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Mac DeMarco, The Garden @ Radio City Music Hall
Clown prince and heart-on-sleeve romantic Mac DeMarco headlines one of Manhattan’s toniest venues tonight. He’ll probably still belch a lot.

Interpol @ Bowery Ballroom
Ahead of their big Forest Hills show with Deerhunter and Battles, Interpol are playing Turn on the Bright Lights in full at their old Bowery Ballroom stomping grounds.

The War on Drugs, Land of Talk @ Central Park SummerStage
Heartland indie rockers The War On Drugs recently released their major label debut, A Deeper Understanding, which takes their sound into bigger-sounding territory than ever. Tonight’s their second of two NYC shows, which both have different great openers. This one has indie staples Land of Talk, who returned this year with their first album in seven years.

Pixies @ Space at Westbury
Their new material may not be so hot and Kim Deal may be out of the band, but it’s still worth seeing one of the most influential alternative rock bands of all time. They play Long Island tonight, Asbury Park on Saturday, and Westchester on Sunday.

Geoff Rickly (Thursday), Dave Elkins (Mae), French Horn Rebellion, Janelle Kroll @ Knockdown Center
Geoff Rickly headlines this ACLU benefit, and he’s promising to play Thursday songs with special guests from other bands. Should be very cool.

The Early November, The Movielife, Heart Attack Man @ Warsaw
The Early November’s 2003 debut The Room’s Too Cold is an emo classic at this point, and they’ll perform it in full tonight. It’s a co-headlining show with Long Island melodic punk greats The Movielife, who released their first album in 14 years today.

The Killers @ Terminal 5
The Killers’ new album Wonderful Wonderful is out today. Their 2018 tour behind the album includes huge NYC shows at MSG and Barclays Center, but first they play two much smaller shows here this week, this being the second. They also perform at the Global Citizen Festival in Central Park on Saturday.

The Spits, Night Birds, Big Eyes @ Brooklyn Night Bazaar
One of the most consistently great Ramones-y punk bands, The Spits are back in town and they’ve got perfectly-matched local support from Night Birds and Big Eyes.

Matt Pond PA, Wild Pink, Shayfer James @ White Eagle Hall
The always-solid indie rock singer/songwriter Matt Pond PA released his latest album Still Summer last month. He’s on tour now with Tiny Engines-signed indie rockers Wild Pink, playing Jersey City tonight and Brooklyn on Monday (9/25).

Mates of State, Field Mouse, MORI @ Garcia’s at the Capitol Theatre
Poppy indie greats Mates of State play just outside of NYC tonight with well-matched support from Field Mouse.

Cold Beat, RIPS, Silk Sign @ Mercury Lounge
San Francisco’s Cold Beat released their terrific third album, Chaos by Invitation, back in the spring and if you haven’t checked it out, it’s recommended for fans of gothy postpunk, blippy synthpop and other early ’80s sounds. Hannah Lew, who used to be in Grass Widow, is a great songwriter who doesn’t skimp on the catchy hooks, and there are some moments of beauty as well.

The Giraffes, Tight Fright @ Rocks Off Concert Cruises
Long-running Brooklyn riffmongers The Giraffes are known for their wild shows, and the craziness should magnify on a boat.

Future Punx, Weeknight, Flash Trading @ The Safari Room at El Cortez
Like Devo, Oingo Boingo, Gang of Four and sci-fi? Future Punx tick all the boxes and have a fun live show to boot.

Pavo Pavo, Katie Von Schleicher, Star Rover, Adam Schatz, Benjamin Lazar Davis, Showtime Goma, Nancy Feast, Special Guests @ Union Pool
Much-loved Greenpoint venue Manhattan Inn closed a year ago. Tonight many of the performers who frequented it’s tiny space gather for this “reunion special.” Should be a nice show.

Gary Wilson, Tredicci Bacci, Material Girls, Brett Davis @ Our Wicked Lady
Outsider artist Gary Wilson plays tonight with Morricone-philes Tredicci Bacci and more.

Drew McDowall, Little Annie Anxiety, Hiro Kone, Robert Turman, Scout Pare-Phillips, Drekka, Wetware @ Pioneer Works
Dais Records celebrates 10 years of experimental, minimal wave, post-punk, goth and more with this special show featuring a host of their artists. Highlights include Drew McDowall performing a “revisted” rendition of Coil’s legendary drone masterpiece, Time Machines.

Jerry Seinfeld @ Beacon Theatre
What’s the deal with these shows? Seinfeld’s got a monthly Beacon residency, that’s what.

Jen Kirkman @ The Bell House
Comedian and best-selling author Jen Kirkman plays her first of two NYC show tonight as part of her “All New Material, Girl” tour.
