What's going on Friday?

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

J.I.D, Earthgang, Chaz French, Lute @ SOB’s
Atlanta rapper J.I.D has deservedly gained some buzz for this year’s The Never Story, released on J. Cole’s Dreamville label. His tour with labelmates EarthGang lands in NYC tonight.

EMA, The Blow, Gold Dime @ Brooklyn Bazaar
EMA and The Blow both have very solid new albums out, Exile In The Outer Ring and Brand New Abyss, respectively, and they’re currently on tour together.

New York Comedy Festival
The laughs roll on with NYCF…tonight’s shows include 2 Dope Queens, Kurt Braunohler, Dino and Andy’s Skull Juice, and more.

Trap Them, Call Of The Wild @ Saint Vitus
Metallic hardcore greats Trap Them are calling it quits after a few final shows, including this one. Denver’s likeminded Call of the Void open and they’re not to miss.

The Mountain Goats, Mothers @ White Eagle Hall
The Mountain Goats are having a very busy year, with their great new album Goths, a new Ozzy Osbourne-themed EP, an upcoming tribute album to the band, and frontman John Darnielle’s new novel Universal Harvester. Their tour hits Jersey City tonight and Brooklyn on Sunday. Openers Mothers are worth catching too.

DOC NYC festival
America’s biggest documentary festival is underway and, as usual, there are lots of music documentaries. Tonight’s a screening of David Bowie: The Last Five Years (which will air later on HBO), and more.

D.A.N.C.E. – A Blog Haus Night w/ Uffie (DJ) @ Schmanski
Relive the carefree mid-oughts when we danced the night away to J.U.S.T.I.C.E, Hot Chip, CSS, Soulwax, LCD Soundsystem, The Gossip, New Young Pony Club and others at this party featuring Uffie (remember “Pop the Glock”?) and others DJing. Free before 11:30 PM.

Peter Matthew Bauer (of The Walkmen), Dark Tea @ ALPHAVILLE
Former Walkmen member Peter Matthew Bauer celebrates the release of his new album, Mount Qaf (Divine Love), tonight.

Shame, Honey, Language @ Baby’s All Right
One of the talked-about bands at SXSW this year, UK group Shame make vitriolic post-punk and have a live show that has drawn comparisons to Fat White Family (though they don’t sound like them). Tonight’s their first NYC show.

Anamanaguchi, Skylar Spence, Ice Choir, Lexxie, Motion Graphics, Grrl @ Elsewhere
8-Bit rock band Anamanaguchi take over brand new venue Elsewhere tonight with music in both The Hall and Zone One, including the ’80s new romantic revivalists Ice Choir.

Stacey Pullen, Juan Atkins, Mary Yuzovskaya, Beta Librae @ Elsewhere
Late night at Elsewhere it’s techno icon Juan Atkins and second-wave Detroit techno innovator Stacey Pullen, plus Mary Yuzovskaya, Beta Librae and more.

White Reaper, Post Animal @ Le Poisson Rouge
The self-proclaimed World’s Best American Band (that’s the name of their latest album, anyway)

Hot Chip (DJ), Tim Sweeney @ Output
Members of Hot Chip spin tonight alongside Beats in Space main man Tim Sweeny.

The Rebel (Ben Wallers of The Country Teasers), Richard Papiercuts, Maximum Ernst @ Secret Project Robot
The Rebel is the current musical project of Ben Wallers from Scottish band Country Teasers. Fans of Mekons, The Fall and other thoughtful, arty punks, take note.

Shilpa Ray @ WFMU Monty Hall
Shilpa Ray’s new album Door Girlis is a terrific showcase for her prowess, personality and songwriting. She’s even better live.

Springsteen on Broadway
It’s the hottest ticket on Broadway: Bruce Springsteen playing solo at the intimate Walter Kerr Theatre, performing some of his biggest hits and telling stories about them. His show runs through February.

Morris Day & The Time @ BB Kings
Few could threaten to upstage Prince, but Morris Day & The Time arguably did just that in the classic film Purple Rain. Day remains a charmer live.

Nellie McKay @ Joe’s Pub
A gifted songwriter and performer capable of heart and humor, Nellie McKay is a perfect fit for intimate venues like Joe’s Pub.
