What's going on Friday?

Triple Crown

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Foxing, Moving Mountains, Sorority Noise, Shortly @ Music Hall of Williamsburg (Triple Crown 20th anniversary show)
Beloved rock label Triple Crown Records is celebrating its 20th anniversary at this show, which BrooklynVegan is proud to present. The lineup includes three bands who have put out great music on the label in recent years, Foxing, Moving Mountains and Sorority Noise, plus Shortly who just signed to the label last month.

Wiki, Nick Hakim, Medslaus @ Irving Plaza
Wiki’s No Mountains In Manhattan is one of the finest snapshots of New York City set to music this year, and it’s also one of the best rap albums of the year. His live shows are a killer time too, and tonight should be no different.

Chris Rock @ The Theater at MSG
Chris Rock has been in the midst of a comeback year, which has recorded his ongoing first tour in nine years. He played two BAM shows recently, where he taped a forthcoming Netflix special, and tonight he begins another NYC run. This is the third of three consecutive shows at the Theatre at MSG, and then he plays Barclays Center on 12/9.

Jerry Seinfeld @ Beacon Theatre (two shows)
Comedy legend Jerry Seinfeld has been back in the public eye this year thanks to the success of his Grammy-nominated Netflix special, Jerry Before Seinfeld, which takes a look at Jerry’s pre-fame days. Tonight he wraps up his ‘The Homestand’ residency at Beacon Theatre, which has been happening monthly since last year.

Mogwai, Xander Harris @ Terminal 5
Post-rock greats Mogwai returned this year with a new Dave Fridmann-produced album, Every Country’s Sun. (Their classic debut Young Team also turned 20 recently.) They’re supporting the new album on tour now, and they bring their towering live show to this towering venue tonight.

The Bouncing Souls, TSOL, Stay Wild @ Mulcahy’s
Jersey punk heroes The Bouncing Souls and West Coast horror punk greats TSOL are playing a few Northeast shows together this week, including Long Island tonight and Jersey City tomorrow.

Hiss Golden Messenger @ Bowery Ballroom
Folk rocker Hiss Golden Messenger (aka MC Taylor) released his latest album, Hallelujah Anyhow, this year via Merge. He’s supporting it on tour now, and this is his second of two Bowery Ballroom shows.

Kweku Collins, Femdot, Deem Spencer @ Baby’s All Right
Chicago rapper/singer/producer Kweku Collins deservedly picked up buzz last year for his debut album Nat Love, and he quickly followed it with this year’s Grey EP. He produced the whole nine-song EP himself and it pulls from rap, R&B, and even indie rock with the Yeah Yeah Yeahs-interpolating “Oasis2: Maps.”

Ellen Allien, Volvox, Hunter Lombard, Rachel Noon @ Good Room
Berlin techno boundary-pusher Ellen Allien this year released her ninth album, Nost, and plays tonight with NYC DJ Volvox and others.

Inquisition, Nader Sadek, Putrid Pile, Unearthly Trance, The True Goat, Night Rite @ Saint Vitus
Vitus hosts a stacked bill tonight that black and death metal fans may not want to miss.

SECT, Sick Shit, Crushed, Blackest @ The Kingsland
SECT, the straight edge supergroup with members of Earth Crisis, Catharsis, Cursed and Fall Out Boy drummer Andy Hurley (whose time in the reunited Racetraitor and Enabler is more applicable to mention here than Fall Out Boy), released No Cure for Death a few weeks ago. Tonight, they play new Brooklyn venue The Kingsland.

Hot Tuna Electric ft. Steve Kimock @ Capitol Theatre
Having recently played some acoustic shows in NYC, Jorma Kaukonen and Jack Casady bring Hot Tuna just outside of the city tonight for an electric show featuring Steve Kimock.

Losers Lounge Tribute to Burt Bacharach @ Joe’s Pub
Joe McGinty has been leading the Losers Lounge for about 20 years, and this week at Joe’s Pub they’re toasting classic songwriter Burt Bacharach whose laid-back style is about as perfect a fit for LL as you can get. Surprise guest vocalists, brought out to sing favorites like “I Say A Little Prayer,” “Raindrops Keep Fallin’ on My Head” and “Walk on By,” are the icing on this cake.

Springsteen on Broadway
The Boss is currently in the midst of his completely sold-out “Springsteen on Broadway” run at the Walter Kerr Theatre, which has now been extended through June! At these shows, Bruce plans to give fans shows “that are as personal and as intimate as possible.”
