Quiet Slang

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

‘Junun’ screening, Jonny Greenwood, Shye Ben Tzur & more @ Alamo Drafthouse
Ahead of Radiohead’s NYC-area shows, Jonny Greenwood and his Junun bandmates (Shye Ben Tzur, and members of The Rajasthan Express) present this Paul Thomas Anderson-directed film on the band. They’re performing after the screening, too.

Phoenix, Giorgio Poi @ Brooklyn Steel
Phoenix have turned Brooklyn Steel into an homage to Rome for this five-night “Ti Amo” residency. There’s gelato, there’s a Telefono booth, there’s a “supermercato” vending machine with crazy merch, and tons of red, white and green balloons. and more. That’s all in addition to their patented show-stopping performances. If you didn’t get tickets to this sold-out show, you can stream it live on Pitchfork at 9 PM Eastern.

Quiet Slang, Abi Reimold @ Rough Trade
Beach Slang leader James Alex is currently on tour as Quiet Slang (rescheduled from May), his piano/cello-fueled project where he plays stripped-down versions of Beach Slang songs. He hits Brooklyn tonight with quality support from Philly neighbor Abi Reimold.

Late Bloomer, Glitterer, Living Room, Burnt Beach @ Muchmore’s
North Carolina emo-ish indie rockers Late Bloomer are about to release their first album for 6131 (and third overall), but first they’re on tour, hitting Brooklyn tonight.

Hell Yeah: James Cross Goes On A First Date w/ Nikki Glaser, Joe Pera, Mary Houlihan, Alise Morales, Tony Zaret, Mary Kate Doherty, Brooke Eliot @ Union Hall
James Cross’ monthly comedy series this month puts him on a date with Nikki Glaser, plus comedy sets from lots of other funny people.

Razzle Dazzle @ Cape House
Josh Johnson has perfected the wholesome, earnest, yet disarming comedic tone required to write for The Daily Show, where he has been a writer for the past two seasons. See him perform stand up, as well as Brendan Eyre (Late Night w/ Seth Meyers, Comedy Central), Pamela Ross (Women in Comedy Festival, Mendoza Line Comedy), and Joel Walkowski (Comedy Central, ESPN) at Razzle Dazzle, the monthly comedy show at Cape House in Bushwick.

Butterboy Comedy w/ Aparna, Jo and Maeve @ Littlefield
Each week, Jo Firestone and Maeve Higgins (and occasionally, though not lately, Aparna Nancherla) host this showcase featuring seasoned alternative and “club” comics from around New York. This week’s lineup includes Sam Jay (Saturday Night Live), Sean Patton (@midnight, Comedy Central Half Hour), Jordan Temple (Conan, Hidden Fences), Doug Smith (This Is Not Happening, Conan), and Deanne Smith (Montreal Comedy Festival).
