Youth of Today

What's going on Monday?

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

This Is Not This Heat, Yvette @ Le Poisson Rouge
This is Not This Heat, the group featuring This Heat founding members Charles Bullen and Charles Hayward, still sound fiery some 40 years on. Local noisemakers Yvette make this a terrific double bill.

Fleetwood Mac @ Madison Square Garden
Fleetwood Mac, now with Mike Campbell and Neil Finn replacing Lindsey Buckingham, return for a second show at MSG and the last of their NYC-area shows on this tour.

Youth of Today, Firewalker, Protester, Ekulu @ Market Hotel
Hardcore as we know it wouldn’t be the same without Youth of Today, and their influence stretches far beyond the genre too. They’re currently reunited with the We’re Not In This Alone lineup of Ray Cappo, Porcell, Walter Schreifels, and Sammy Siegler, and this lineup is playing its first NYC shows in over 20 years this week. This is the third of three, and it’s the only one that wasn’t sold out way ahead of time so you can still get tickets.

Thursday, American Pleasure Club @ Saint Vitus
Thursday have been celebrating their 20th anniversary on this lengthy tour that has seen them playing their classic albums Full Collapse and War All The Time in full. This is night two of a three-night run at the very intimate Saint Vitus, and though these aren’t billed as full-album shows, they’ll probably play tons of classics. They also said they’d only tour again in the event of new music after this, so this may be your last chance to catch them for a while.

The Comet Is Coming, Will Shore @ Mercury Lounge
Modern jazz is having a real moment right now, especially in the UK where Shabaka Hutchings has been emerging as one of the leaders thanks to his work with Sons of Kemet, Shabaka and the Ancestors, and The Comet Is Coming. The Comet Is Coming is by far his trippiest project — they’re clearly influenced by ’70s space rock and ’60s psychedelia — and their great sophomore album Trust In The Lifeforce Of The Deep Mystery (which features Kate Tempest is on a song) just came out last week.

Stella Donnelly, Faye Webster @ Rough Trade
Australia’s Stella Donnelly recently released her debut album Beware of the Dogs on Secretly Canadian, and musically it sounds like classic twee-pop but lyrically it’s a biting, unfiltered document of rage that sounds very vital in the #MeToo era.

Butterboy Comedy @ Littlefield
Jo Firestone, Aparna Nancherla & Maeve Higgins are all in the house tonight and welcome Sam Jay (Saturday Day Night Live Writer), Andy Haynes (Comedy Central Half Hour), Yedoye Travis (Dark Tank, Montreal Comedy Fest), Julia Claire (Bridgetown Comedy Festival), and Colin Chadwick (Edinburgh Fringe Festival).
