What’s going on Monday?
You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…
Charli XCX, Brooke Candy @ Terminal 5
Singer Charli XCX has gained a reputation for being one of pop music’s most creative voices in recent times, and she’ll play Terminal 5 tonight behind this year’s guest-heavy Charli. On previous stops, she welcomed local drag performers to the stage during the show; we’ll see if she does so tonight.
TIDAL X Rock The Vote @ Barclays Center
The fifth-annual TIDAL benefit concert goes down at Barclays Center tonight, and this year’s event benefits Rock The Vote, which is “dedicated to building the political power of young people through pop culture, music, art, and technology.” Among tonight’s stacked lineup is Alicia Keys, Lil Uzi Vert, Ty Dolla $ign, Young M.A, Moneybagg Yo, Doja Cat, French Montana, and more.
Cursive @ Saint Vitus Bar
Cursive have been on a roll lately, having just released their new album Get Fixed, which comes just a year after Vitriola. There are some clear Ugly Organ vibes on the new album, which is always nice, and Cursive’s live show remains at the top of its game.
Turnover @ The Sultan Room
Dreamy rockers Turnover are set to release their latest album Altogether next month, so you can expect to hear a bunch of new material at this intimate show, which happens at the recently-opened The Sultan Room tonight.
PAT (artist Jacolby Satterwhite and musician Nick Weiss) @ Ace Hotel
Jacolby Satterwhite and Nick Weiss of Teengirl Fantasy just collaborated on PAT, an amazing new album that pays tribute to Satterwhite’s late mother and makes some amazing dance music in the process. The celebrate its release tonight with this free party where they’ll perform a DJ set. The part is free with RSVP
BJ The Chicago Kid, Rayana Jay, KAMAUU @ Music Hall of Williamsburg
Even if you aren’t familiar with BJ the Chicago Kid by name, you’ve probably heard him sing (he’s on multiple Kendrick Lamar and Chance the Rapper albums, plus albums by Schoolboy Q, Freddie Gibbs, Rapsody, Big K.R.I.T., Joey Bada$$, Anderson .Paak, Solange, and more), but his own material his great too. He put out the very solid 1123 on the Motown label earlier this year.
David Cross @ Union Hall
David Cross tested out the stand-up material that became the 2018 Oh Come On tour at a bunch of shows he called “Shootin’ the Shit, Seein’ What Sticks” that mostly happened at Brooklyn’s Union Hall. He’s shooting the shit again with another series of shows.
Butterboy Comedy @ Littlefield
Aparna, Jo and Maeve are all in the house tonight for this week’s Butterboy, which features some pretty exciting guests, including Ilana Glazer (Broad City), Rhys Darby (Flight Of The Conchords), Sam Jay (Comedy Central Stand-up, SNL), Brooks Wheelan (Comedy Central Half Hour, SNL), Alzo Slade (HBO’s Vice News Tonight), and Charles Mcbee (Gotham Comedy Live).
Macy Gray @ Iridium
Macy Gray isn’t the hitmaking force she once was, but she remains active and last year’s Ruby proves her unmistakable voice is still in fine form. This is her second of two consecutive nights at the Iridium.
Mariee Sioux @ Mercury Lounge
Mariee Sioux recently released Grief In Exile, which is yet another gorgeous album in an already-great discography. If you’re unfamiliar with her but you’re into Mazzy Star or Marissa Nadler, you should check this out.
Butcher Brown @ Blue Note (two shows)
While Robert Glasper is in the midst of a month-long residency at the Blue Note, he takes Mondays off, and today the venue hosts two shows from the great Richmond jazz group Butcher Brown, who toured with Kamasi Washington last year and whose members have played with Jack White, Rapsody, Natalie Prass, Foxygen, Christian Scott, and more.
