What's going on Monday?

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Girls Names, Lushes, Heaven’s Gate @ Alphaville
Belfast, Ireland’s Girls Names released Arms Around a Vision was a big leap for the band; still drawing from post-punk influences but really making it their own. Equal parts snarl and despair, the LP is also tuneful, with inventive arrangements and a big beating heart. Having visited the U.S. for SXSW, Girls Names playing Brooklyn tonight before heading back home. This is a very good bill, with the dissonant Lushes and the shoegazy rock of Heaven’s Gate.

Barry Adamson @ Rough Trade
Barry Adamson, of The Bad Seeds and onetime bassist for Magazine, released his 10th solo album, Know Where to Run earlier this year and, like much of his solo work, it plays like a soundtrack to a film never made. In this case: a noir thriller that may or may not feature zombies. This is a rare NYC show for Adamson, and it’s free

Oscar, Frances Rose, Hiccup @ Baby’s All Right
If you pine for the early-’00s days of The Strokes and The Cribs (with a little Blur in there, too), UK artist Oscar knows his way around a crunchy hook and a big chorus. With his debut album due out in May, he plays this post-SXSW show tonight.

White Hinterland, Lip Talk, Trivial Shields @ Manhattan Inn
Casey Dienel has been making music as White Hinterland for 10 years now, offering up high drama and delicate atmospherics. She headlines this very intimate show with the synthy Lip Talk opening.

Jake Bugg, Spookyland @ Bowery Ballroom
UK folk singer headlines this sold-out show, and if you have tickets, it’s worth showing up early for Spookyland. The Australian band has a sound that’s a little folky, a little arty, and sometimes genuinely rocking.

John Mayall @ City Winery
John Mayall has been flying the flag for British Blues for over 50 years, and his bands, like the Bluesbreakers, have counted such famous musicians as Eric Clapton, Peter Green, Jack Bruce, John McVie, Mick Fleetwood, Mick Taylor, and more as members. This is his first of two nights at City Winery.

Night Train Hosted by Wyatt Cenac @ Littlefield
All aboard Wyatt Cenac’s weekly cavalcade, this week with guests Maeve Higgins, George Gordon, Ian Kamel, Shane Torres, Jean Grae, and more.
