Kurt & Courtney @ Beacon Theatre (more by Amanda Hatfield)

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Courtney Barnett & Kurt Vile, Jen Cloher @ Loew’s Jersey Theatre
Courtney Barnett and Kurt Vile’s styles go together perfectly, as proved on this year’s collaborative album and on the tour they’ve been on. Opening is Jen Cloher, whose “Fear Is Like A Forest” is one of the songs that Kurt and Courtney cover on their album.

Flying Lotus in 3D, Seven Davis Jr., PBDY @ Brooklyn Steel
Flying Lotus is in the midst of his “3D live” tour, with two Brooklyn Steel shows this week. This is the first.

Bell Witch, Primitive Man @ Saint Vitus
Bell Witch recently released their new album Mirror Reaper, a one-song, 83-minute album that goes on an ambitious trip through post-rock, doom metal, and more. They’re on tour with Denver sludge band Primitive Man, whose perfectly named album Caustic also dropped recently.

Cattle Decapitation, Revocation, Full of Hell, Artificial Brain, Alekhine’s Gun @ Highline Ballroom
San Diego death metal vets Cattle Decapitation are on tour with some great openers, the thrashy Revocation, the grindy Full of Hell, and the weirdo tech-y Artificial Brain.

Tom Petty tribute w/ Walter Schreifels, Sammy James Jr. (of Mooney Suzuki), Parker Kindred, Billy Campion, Ian Love, members of 2 Skinnee J’s & more @ Brooklyn Bowl
To pay tribute to the late rock legend Tom Petty, Rocks Off is presenting this show with Walter Schreifels (of Quicksand, Gorilla Biscuits, Rival Schools etc) and his Rival Schools bandmate Ian Love, plus The Mooney Suzuki’s Sammy James Jr (who used to always play the Petty Fest shows), four members of 2 Skinnee J’s, The Bogmen’s Billy Champion, in-demand drummer Parker Kindred, and several others.

Shigeto, Ela Minus @ Music Hall of Williamsburg
Detroit electronic musician Shigeto returned this year with The New Monday (on Ghostly), and he’s now on tour with art pop artist Ela Minus, who’s also been touring with Austra all year.

Dhani Harrison, Summer Moon @ Knitting Factory
Dhani Harrison, the son of Beatle George Harrison, just released his solo debut, IN///PARALLEL, which finds the apple doesn’t fall too far from the tree. Summer Moon, meanwhile, is Nikolai of The Strokes.

Night Train w/ Wyatt Cenac @ Littlefield
It’s not only the 5th anniversary of Wyatt Cenac’s Night Train comedy show but it’s also the last edition ever. Joining him for this happy/sad occasion are Michelle Wolf, Hari Kondabolu, Seaton Smith, Joyelle Nicole, and some surprise guests. Next Monday it’s the debut of “Butterboy” with hosts Jo Firestone, Aparna Nancherla & Maeve Higgins.
