Kronos Quartet, Face The Music @ Merkin Concert Hall (Ecstatic Music Festival)
Part of the 2018 Ecstatic Music Festival, the acclaimed Kronos Quartet team with relative upstarts Face the Music to perform new works written for Kronos’ “Fifty for the Future,” a commissioning, education and legacy project showcasing contemporary approaches to the string quartet that features new works by some of today’s foremost composers.

Why?, Open Mike Eagle @ Music Hall of Williamsburg
Having just released an expanded edition of last year’s Moh Lhean (with an extra disc’s worth of remixes), indie rap act Why? hit Brooklyn tonight with Open Mike Eagle making for an appealing double bill.

Valerie June @ Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture
Valerie June, whose music touches on soul, bluegrass and folk, plays a solo set as part of Carnegie Hall’s “Neighborhood Concert Series.” Free, 6:30 PM.

Butterboy w/ Jo, Aparna & Maeve @ Littlefield
Butterboy welcomes comedians Seaton Smith, Leah Bonnema, Eman El-Husseini, Chris Duffy, and Mara Wiles tonight. There are surprise guests sometimes too — Jim Gaffigan did 20 minutes last Monday.

Jose James @ The Blue Note
Neo-soul great Jose James is celebrating the 10th anniversary of his 2008 debut album The Dreamer with a residency at the Blue Note, with two shows a night through February 8. This is night two.
