Bouncing Souls at Stone Pony Summer Stage in 2017 (more by Keith Marlowe)

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

The Bouncing Souls, Against Me!, Titus Andronicus, Smoking Popes, Tim Barry @ Stone Pony
It’s The Bouncing Souls’ annual “Stoked for the Summer” show in Asbury Park, with an amazing lineup including revitalized punk vets Against Me!, punk-ish indie rockers Titus Andronicus, reunited ’90s alt-rockers Smoking Popes, and Avail frontman turned folk singer Tim Barry.

Jess Williamson, Katie Von Schleicher, Monteagle @ Baby’s All Right
Austin/California-based folk singer Jess Williamson recently released her first album for Mexican Summer, the very solid Cosmic Wink, which fans of ’60s/’70s psych folk or modern-day stuff like Angel Olsen should dig. She’s in NYC tonight with quality local support from Katie Von Schleicher.

Laff Trax (Toro y Moi + Nosaj Thing), Madam X, Leon Vynehall, Photay, Starchild & The New Romantic, Manara @ MoMA PS1 Warm Up
The dance parties under the sun (if the weather holds out) known as Warm Up continue today with a typically appealing lineup headlined by Toro y Moi and Nosaj Thing’s collaborative Laff Trax project. There’s also other cool stuff like IDM great Leon Vynehall, Blood Orange/Solange collaborator Starchild & the New Romantic, and more.

Sun Ra Arkestra, Bearcat @ Pioneer Works
Sun Ra Arkestra keep the music of the late jazz legend Sun Ra alive, and their super fun live shows, which include dancing, extravagant outfits, and more, are always worth seeing.

Wiz Khalifa, Rae Sremmurd, O.T. Genasis @ PNC Bank Arts Center
Wiz Khalifa headlines this show, and it’s also a chance to hear the unstoppable hitmakers Rae Sremmurd (of “Black Beatles” fame, among other things). Rae Sremmurd will be back in the area to open Childish Gambino’s tour too.

Peels, Somerset Thrower, Quicksilver Daydream @ Union Pool
Union Pool hosts a punk show tonight, highlighted by emo-ish alt-rockers Somerset Thrower.

The Shacks, Joy Cleaner @ WFMU Monty Hall
The Shacks are one of the finest new dream pop bands in NYC, and tonight they play just outside of the city in Jersey.

Guttural Secrete, Dehumanized, Kill Everything, Analepsy, Korpse, Cognitive, Slamentation, Primordius, Gavel @ Saint Vitus (NY Deathfest)
Saint Vitus hosts the two-day NY Deathfest this weekend, which is exactly what it sounds like it is: two days of relentless death metal brutality. This is day one.

The Originals @ Central Park SummerStage
Stretch Armstrong, Clark Kent, D-Nice, Rich Medina and Tony Touch are bringing The Originals party to Central Park tonight. Tony Touch calls it “a collective of legendary DJs who made an impact in this industry for the past 20 years.”

Seu Jorge @ Blue Note (2 shows)
Brazilian singer and Life Aquatic troubadour Seu Jorge continues his 10-night Blue Note residency.

(Sandy) Alex G, The Garden, Shannon Shaw, Navy Gangs, Juan Wauters, Pow Pow Family Band, Public Practice, The Veldt, Whoisskitzo @ Coney Island
It’s the free Coney Island Music Festival, which presents acts across two stages (Stillwell Ave and Coney Art Walls). 1-8 PM.

The Essex Green, Pale Lights @ Knitting Factory Brooklyn
What a comeback! Jangly indie pop band The Essex Green regrouped and just released their first album in 10 years which finds them not only in fine form but arguably making their best-ever album. Catch them tonight with simpatico group Pale Lights.

Bela Fleck @ Murmrr Theatre
Jazz and bluegrass innovator and banjo master Bela Fleck is usually out with the Flecktones but tonight is what they’re saying is his first-ever solo show in NYC.

Toots & the Maytals, Royal KhaoZ, Selectress Iriela @ Brooklyn Bowl
Toots & the Maytals are one of the most influential reggae bands around and they’re still kicking today. The chance to see them is a real treat.
