What’s going on Saturday?

Gorilla Biscuits at Wrecking Ball Festival 2016 - Saturday
Gorilla Biscuits at Wrecking Ball 2016 (more by Amanda Hatfield)

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Gorilla Biscuits, Incendiary, Negative Approach, Culture Abuse, Fury, Warthog, Gouge Away, Praise, Death Bells, Weeping Icon @ Knockdown Center (Thrasher Death Match)
It’s the second day of the first-ever NYC edition of Thrasher Death Match, and the lineup is stacked. It’s headlined by local hardcore legends Gorilla Biscuits and also features Detroit hardcore legends Negative Approach — both of whom are still killer and pretty rare to see — plus a handful of great newer bands who fit the bill perfectly.

Fury, Gouge Away, Combust @ Saint Vitus
After Death Match, two of those great newer bands — Fury and Gouge Away — will head to Saint Vitus for the unofficial afterparty. Five bucks gets you in.

Martin Rev, ESCAPE-ISM, Roya @ Murmrr Ballroom
One half of Suicide, Martiv Rev remains a musical gremlin, bashing away at his keyboard with abandon. Escape-Ism is the solo project of Ian Svenonius who is magnetic in any incarnation.

Frankie Cosmos, Lomelda, Stef Chura @ Music Hall of Williamsburg
Frankie Cosmos is wrapping up her North American tour with three NYC-area shows — one more still to go after tonight.

Pete Tong, Marwan Sabb, Nozen, Sosae, David Velez @ Output
Iconic Uk acid house DJ spins tonight.

Leon Bridges, Khruangbin @ Radio City Music Hall
With his update on classic soul, Leon Bridges continues to rise — as this Radio City Music Hall show attests.

STRFKR @ Bowery Ballroom
Portland band STRFKR are celebrating their 10th anniversary this year are playing their debut album (back when they were called Starfucker) in full, plus second set of songs from their rest of their catalog.

Eric Bachmann, Skylar Gudasz @ Rough Trade
Compared to the ’70s rock leanings of Bachmann’s last solo album (and the crunchy indie rock he helped define in the ’90s with Archers of Loaf), his new LP, No Recover, sees Eric really mellowing out, but manages to be just as effective as his louder material.

Brooklyn Electronic Music Festival
It’s the fourth and final night of Brooklyn Electronic Music Festival, and the fest is going out with a band. There’s Nina Kraviz, Mount Kimbie (DJ), and more at Avant Gardner; Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs (DJ) and more at Analog BKNY; and DJ Seinfeld and more at Good Room.

Liz Phair, Speedy Ortiz @ Brooklyn Steel
Liz Phair has been in the midst of a comeback thanks to some very cool reissues of her acclaimed early work and her lasting influence on a lot of today’s indie rock bands. One of the bands she surely influenced, Speedy Ortiz, open this show (and Speedy singer Sadie Dupuis sang on stage with Liz — and Robyn Hitchcock — at a previous show).

A Hawk and a Hacksaw (mem Neutral Milk Hotel), Paul Collins (of Beirut) @ Elsewhere
A Hawk and a Hacksaw, who count Neutral Milk Hotel’s Jeremy Barnes as a member, are back out on the road and hitting NYC tonight. Opening is Paul Collins (the one from Beirut, not the one from Paul Collins’ Beat, who also happen to play Brooklyn tonight).

Paul Collins’ Beat, The Insomniacs, Straw Pipes @ ALPHAVILLE
Not to be confused with Paul Collins of Beirut (who also happens to play Brooklyn tonight), this one is the power-pop legend who gave us “Hanging on the Telephone.”

Eric Clapton w/ special guests Gary Clark Jr & Jimmie Vaughan @ Madison Square Garden
It’s your last chance to see Slowhand in the U.S. this year. He plays MSG tonight and tomorrow, and then takes a few months off before playing some shows overseas in 2019. These are all part of his “final” tour, so there may not be many chances left to see him in general.

Systematic Death, Bastard Noise, System Fucker, Krimewatch, Ambush, Sickness @ Saint Vitus
Japanese hardcore legends Systematic Death are in Brooklyn to celebrate their 35th anniversary across two nights with California noise vets Bastard Noise and others. This is night two.

Champagne SuperChillin, Hypoluxo @ Secret Project Robot
Though their name might have you thinking they’re a loungey Oasis tribute act, Champagne SuperChillin actually make Frenchy pop.

Baby Dayliner, James Sparberís Pleasure Machine, Hermes @ The Safari Room at El Cortez
A vet of the NYC scene, nobody else is quite like Baby Dayliner.

Springsteen on Broadway
The Boss continues his sold-out “Springsteen on Broadway” run at the Walter Kerr Theatre, which runs through December. At these shows, Bruce is giving fans shows “that are as personal and as intimate as possible.”
