What's going on Saturday?
You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…
Jack White, The Nude Party @ Kings Theatre
Jack White returned this year with his new solo album Boarding House Reach, and though it’s been his most divisive solo album yet, the new songs really come to life at his shows, which have been killer all year. After headlining many festivals this past summer, he plays smaller theater shows on this tour, including Brooklyn’s Kings Theatre. This is his second of two shows at the venue.
Bob Dylan @ Hard Rock Live at Etess Arena (Atlantic City)
The legendary Bob Dylan’s got seven Beacon Theatre shows coming up, but first he plays a couple other shows in the surrounding area including Atlantic City tonight.
Mexican Summer 10th Anniversary @ Pioneer Works
NYC indie label Mexican Summer celebrates 10 years of existence (and great music) with this day-long party featuring much of their roster, including Ariel Pink, Drugdealer, Allah-Las, FJ McMahon and Quilt, Part Time, and a surprise Swedish headliner.
Longwave, The Shelia Divine @ Bowery Ballroom
Part of the early ’00s wave of Brooklyn bands, along with Interpol, TV on the Radio and Yeah Yeah Yeahs, the shoegazy Longwave are back with their first new single in forever, and a new album due out soon.
NY Night Train Soul Clap & Dance-Off w/ Nick Waterhouse (DJ set) @ Brooklyn Bazaar
Jonathan Toubin’s ever-popular Soul Clap & Dance-Off hosts a rare Midnight edition at Brooklyn Bazaar with Nick Waterhouse as the guest selector.
Tera Melos, Mouse on The Keys, Vasudeva @ Elsewhere
Spastic noise/art rockers Tera Melos recently dropped their brief but enjoyable Treasures and Trolls EP, and now they’re on the road with Japanese post-rock/jazz group Mouse on the Keys, which is a great pairing. Vasudeva provide well-matched local support tonight.
Uniform & The Body, Author & Punisher, Intensive Care @ Market Hotel
In addition to both releasing their own new albums this year, noisecore crushers Uniform and avant-metal band The Body teamed up for the collaborative LP Mental Wounds Not Healing. They’re performing the music of that album together tonight. Direct support comes from one-man industrial band Author & Punisher, who also put out a great new album this year.
Forward, Warthog, Haram, Headsplitters, Sister Anne @ Saint Vitus
Japanese hardcore vets Forward are back in North America on a tour that hits Brooklyn tonight. Some cool openers lined up too.
Iron Chic, The Riverboat Gamblers, Slingshot Dakota, Timeshares @ The Kingsland
This is a cool bill all around with Long Island shoutalong punks Iron Chic, Texas garage punks Riverboat Gamblers, PA indie pop duo Slingshot Dakota, and twangy Long Island punks Timeshares.
Olafur Arnalds @ Town Hall
Icelandic composer, musician and producer Ólafur Arnalds is currently touring North America behind his new album re:member.
Lisa/Liza, Matt Bachmann, Ed Askew Band @ Flowers For All Occasions
This is a good bill all around for fans of quiet singer/songwriter type stuff, and seeing psych-folk legend Ed Askew is especially a treat.
SPONTANEANATION with Paul F. Tompkins @ The Bell House (2 shows)
Paul F. Tompkins, you may know him from Bojack Horseman (he voices Mr. Peanutbutter), is spending the whole weekend at The Bell House with his various podcasts. Tonight its two shows of his totally improvised “Spontaneanation.”
Springsteen on Broadway
The Boss continues his sold-out “Springsteen on Broadway” run at the Walter Kerr Theatre, which runs through December. At these shows, Bruce is giving fans shows “that are as personal and as intimate as possible.”
