What's going on Saturday?

Public Practice at Music Hall of Williamsburg
Public Practice @ Music Hall of Williamsburg (more by Ester Segretto)

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Future Punx, Bodega, Public Practice @ ALPHAVILLE
Future Punx celebrate the release of their new EP tonight and have a pretty amazing undercard, featuring Bodega and Public Practice. That’s a great triple bill.

Elton John @ Barclays Center
Elton John’s very long goodbye tour treks on, but this is the last of his NYC run. He’s been doing a spectacular show with tons of hits, and tonight is sure to be no exception.

New Colossus Festival
If you miss the days of running around the Lower East Side and East Village during CMJ, New Colossus is here to put a little of that feeling back, with shows packed with emerging artists from around the world happening at Pianos, Arlene Grocery, The Delancey, Coney Island Baby, Bower Electric and Berlin Under A. There’s a free day show at Arlene’s today too.

Penelope Isles, Flirting, Walrus, Kings of the Beach, Motherhood, Body Type @ Berlin
This New Colossus showcase is a pretty solid pic for the festival, with UK bands Penelope Isles ( buzzy, jazzy guitar pop), Flirting (who sound a bit like Life Without Buildings), Australian dreampop band Body Type, Spanish garage rock crew Kings of the Beach, and Canadian bands Walrus and Motherhood.

Bones’ Garage, Peeling, Bruiser Queen, Psycho Comedy, Orions Belte, Penelope Isles, Taylor Knox, Motel Raphael, Emilie Kahn @ Arlene’s Grocery
You can also catch Penelope Isles at this New Colossus show which also features St. Louis garage punks Bruiser Queen (who have a new 7″ coming out on Jesse Malin and Don DiLego’s Velvet Elk Records), and more.

Fatherson, Yohuna, Be Forest, Hickeys, Orchards, Construction & Destruction @ Coney Island Baby
Another New Colossus option, this show has Italy’s excellent shoegazers Be Forest (very Slowdive), Glasgow’s Fatherson, Madrid’s Hickeys, UK band Orchards and gothy Canadians Construction & Destruction.

Emancipator, Frameworks, 9 Theory, Lapa @ Bowery Ballroom
Chill electronic producer Emancipator (real name Douglas Appling) has been at it for slightly over a decade now, and his Bowery Ballroom show tonight will surely feature a great atmosphere.

Live From Here with Chris Thile: Bela Fleck, Edgar Meyer, Julie Fowlis, Aoife O’Donovan, Maeve Higgins @ Carnegie Hall
Today’s edition of Chris Thile’s Minnesota Public Radio show Live From Here welcomes bluegrass musicians Bela Fleck and Edgar Meyer, singers Julie Fowlis and Aoife O’Donovan, comedian Maeve Higgins, and more.

Kamaal Williams, Jitwam @ (le) poisson rouge
UK keyboardist Kamaal Williams had one of last year’s best crossover jazz albums with The Return, and now he’s finally making his way to NYC in support of it.

Surfbort, Gibby Haynes, TWOMPSAX, Dirty Fences @ Market Hotel
Brooklyn punks Surfbort are always gleeful unpredictable live; add in Butthole Surfers’ Gibby Haynes and who knows what may happen.

Her’s, Spencer @ Music Hall of Williamsburg
UK duo Her’s hail from Liverpool and sound like The Strokes if they listened to jazzy, jangly ’80s alt rock and pop and not Television and Tom Petty.

Petra Haden, Julian Lage, Jorge Roeder, Kenny Wollesen, Jesse Harris @ National Sawdust
“Songs for Petra” presents the music of renowned composer John Zorn and the lyrics of Grammy Award–winning songwriter Jesse Harris performed by Petra Haden (vocals), Julian Lage (guitar), Jorge Roeder (upright bass), Kenny Wollesen (drums), and Jesse Harris himself (guitar, vocals).

Ezra Collective, ADAIR @ Rough Trade
Ezra Collective are one of the most promising groups of the UK jazz renaissance, and they’ve got a new album on the way this year. Catch them in NYC tonight on their way to SXSW.

Nellie Mckay @ Birdland Theater
Idiosyncratic singer-songwriter Nellie McKay is a real charmer, whether it’s cabaret material or more pop sounds.

The Monkees featuring Mike Nesmith & Micky Dolenz @ Beacon Theatre
Micky Dolenz and Michael Nesmith will be playing Monkees favorites tonight, and you can expect tributes to Peter Tork and Davy Jones as well.

Suzanne Vega @ Cafe Carlyle
Veteran songwriter Suzanne Vega continues her “Suzanne Vega Sings Her New York Songs at the Carlyle” run tonight, so expect many NYC-centric songs — “Tom’s Diner,” “Luka” and more — from her repertoire in the setlist.

Queensryche, Fates Warning @ Irving Plaza
Power metal vets Queensrÿche just released a new album (The Verdict),  but you can probably be sure they’ll play tons of classics as well.

Morbid Saint, October 31, Blood Feast, Anthropic @ Saint Vitus
Morbid Saint released a true classic of the early thrash era with Spectrum of Death. For a long time it was their only proper full-length, but they’ve been reunited for a bit now and in 2015 they gave a proper release to their “lost” sophomore album Destruction System. Not long after that, Spectrum of Death-era vocalist Pat Lind left the band, but they’re now active with Cliff Wagner on vocals (and guitarist Jay Visser as the only original member).
