Jawbreaker at Brooklyn Steel
Jawbreaker at Brooklyn Steel in February (more by Amanda Hatfield)

What's going on Saturday?

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Jawbreaker, War on Women, Pohgoh @ Brooklyn Steel
Jawbreaker finally reunited after 20+ years in 2017, and their recent shows have been genuinely great. They’re back in Brooklyn for two shows this weekend, and they’ve got killer openers. War On Women released one of the best punk albums of 2018 with Capture The Flag, and Pohgoh are also back from a long hiatus and released a very good album last year.

Come Together: Music Festival and Label Market @ MoMA PS1
Other Music and MoMa PS1 kick off their two-day “Come Together” indie record label market and music festival today, with performances from Marissa Nadler, Barrie, and the Black Sabbath Cover Band Rehearsal that features Mick Barr, Angel Deradoorian, Greg Fox, Brad Truax, and Nick Zinner, as well as a screening of documentary Carmine Street Guitars, plus lectures and workshops. There’s also the indie label market that features booths where you can buy stuff direct from over 75 independent labels.

New York Night Train Soul Clap, Kid Congo Powers & The Pink Monkey Birds, Jonathan Toubin @ Brooklyn Bazaar
Former Gun Club/Cramps/Bad Seeds member Kid Congo Powers celebrates his 60th birthday with his band The Pink Monkey Birds tonight as part of Jonathan Toubin’s monthly Soul Clap party and dance-off competition.

RY X, Charlie Cunningham @ Murmrr Theatre
Singer/songwriters RY X and Charlie Cunningham team for this sold-out show, and though RY X is the headliner, we recommend showing up on time for Charlie too. He just released a very good single featuring three members of The Maccabees, and he already announced that he’s returning to NYC later this year to headline Rough Trade.

Miho Hatori, Smokey Hormel, Patrick Higgins @ The Kitchen
Tonight marks Miho Hatori’s second NYC date at The Kitchen this week, as part of her Salon Mondialité, an “imaginary, experimental TV talk show. Instead of conversations, Hatori creates sound stories through improvisation and ambient chanting.”

Demetri Martin @ The Paramount
Comedian and former The Daily Show correspondent Demetri Martin will bring his newest standup show “Wandering Mind” to The Paramount tonight, which is sure to continue his hilarious brand of offbeat humor.

PAWS, Anna Altman, William @ Trans-Pecos
PAWS are going in a softer, more indie rock direction on their upcoming album, and you can get a taste of that tonight. Though they’ll surely play some of the punky old faves too.

Long Neck, Brenda Sauter and Friends (of The Feelies), Wygalator, Karyn Kuhl @ WFMU Monty Hall
Long Neck, the current project of Lily Mastrodimos, is continuing to play shows behind last year’s Will This Do?, and her hometown stop in Jersey City tonight will feature some awesome support from The Feelies bassist Brenda Sauter and “friends” (maybe Glenn Mercer?).

John Cooper Clarke @ Joe’s Pub
Salford, UK’s legendary punk poet, Dr. John Cooper Clarke, returns to Joe’s Pub for a night of prose, profanity and more.

Gary Clark Jr. @ Beacon Theatre
Singer, songwriter and guitar great Gary Clark Jr just released his new album This Land and concludes his three-show Beacon run tonight.

Fenne Lily, Arsun @ Union Pool
UK songwriter Fenne Lily recently played some East Coast dates opening for Lucy Dacus, but she’s got her own headlining date at Union Pool tonight, with support from NYC-based songwriter Arsun.

Jose James (Bill Withers tribute) @ Iridium (two shows)
Neo-soul great Jose James is no stranger to tribute shows and albums, and this week he’s doing a run of shows at the Iridium paying tribute to soul legend Bill Withers.
