What’s going on Saturday?

Bird and Bee
The Bird and the Bee

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

The Bird and the Bee, Alex Lilly, Samantha Sidley @ Elsewhere
Inara George and Greg Kurstin just released an entire album of Van Halen covers, all done in the the band’s whimsical style, so expect “Hot for Teacher” and other classics alongside their own suave pop.

Beck, Cage the Elephant, Spoon, Sunflower Bean @ Forest Hills Stadium
Beck and Spoon alone would make for a pretty great evening at Forest Hills Stadium which is, in general, a pretty nice place to see a show.

Bardo Pond, Sunburned Hand of the Man @ Mercury Lounge
Slowcore greats Bardo Pond are driving up from Philly special just to play this show as part of Mercury Lounge’s 25th anniversary. Also on the bill: Boston psych-punk vets Sunburned Hand of the Man.

“Sonic Youth NYC and Beyond” screening @ Murmrr Theatre
Rooftop Films is presenting this evening featuring a New York-specific collection of film and videos from their private archives, plus a Q&A with Sonic Youth members Lee Ranaldo and Steve Shelley as well as SY archivist Aaron Mullan.

Iron Chic, Two Man Advantage, Such Gold, Humble Beginnings, Sinkhole, The Show-Offs, Barnaboy Jones, Big Nothing, Playing Dead, Freezing Cold, Teenage Halloween, Victory Garden @ Amityville Music Hall
Long Island’s Wild Fest is an annual benefit for the family of the late Long Island punk scene staple (and Iron Chic member) Rob Mcallister, and as usual, this year’s lineup includes tons of bands (mostly) from the Long Island scene, from reunited vets to up-and-comers. This is day two of two.

Slaughter Beach Dog, Cave People @ Bowery Ballroom
Slaughter Beach, Dog’s new album Safe And Also No Fear is their darkest and best yet, and tonight’s their first NYC show since its release.

Harms Way, Jesus Piece, Portrayal of Guilt, Fuming Mouth @ Brooklyn Bazaar
This is a killer bill all around, with four bands who explore the middle ground between punk and metal (and beyond) in different and exciting ways.

Igmar Thomas, Talib Kweli, Keyon Harrold, Cory Henry, Alice Smith, Georgia Anne Muldrow, Freddie Stone & special guests @ Marcus Garvey Park
This free SummerStage show celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Harlem Cultural Festival, which became known as Black Woodstock, and it’s got a stacked lineup and the promise of special guests.

Warm Up w/ Chaos in the CBD, Pop Smoke, Cuco, Deem Spencer, MIKE, Tygapaw, Bembona @ MoMA PS1
The dance parties under the sun in MoMA PS1’s courtyard continue today with brotherly New Zealand dance duo Chaos in the CBD headlining, a DJ set from Cuco, and a stacked cast of locals, including “Welcome to the Party” rapper Pop Smoke, avant-garde rapper MIKE, and more.

Dan Scinta Benefit @ Union Pool
Brooklyn musician Dan Scinta, who plays in Wild Yaks and Ice Balloons, suffered a stroke in June. He’s recovering but medical bills are stacking up and this benefit is to help with that. In addition to performances from Ice Balloons, Wild Yaks, Art Grey Noise and more many more, there will be auctions, raffles and more. 4 PM, $20 at the door.

Tyvek, B Boys, Public Practice, Emoji @ Unit J
Detroit’s DIY punk cult heroes Tyvek just released a new EP and are celebrating with two Brooklyn shows this weekend. Tonight’s bill is all-around great.

Glitterer @ Alphaville
Title Fight have been mostly inactive lately, but co-frontman Ned Russin has stayed very busy with his solo project Glitterer, whose ANTI- debut Looking Through The Shades is out now.

Vic Ruggiero, Scott Sturgeon @ The Safari Room at El Cortez
NYC ska icons The Slackers just played a boat yesterday, and tonight keyboardist/vocalist Vic Ruggiero plays a solo show in Bushwick. It’s also a rare chance to see Scott Sturgeon of Leftover Crack and Choking Victim.

Sloppy Jane @ Baby’s All Right
While their records are good, confrontational punk performance artists Sloppy Jane really need to be seen live to get the full experience.

Bonobo (DJ Set), Tourist, J-E-T-S (Jimmy Edgar & Machinedrum), Quantic (Solo Live), Catching Flies, Lindstrom @ Brooklyn Mirage
Bonobo (aka Simon Green) brings his OUTLIER party to Brooklyn Mirage, with a full evening of killer dance music, including Norway’s Lindstrom and tons more.

Steve Gunn @ Sole East
Modern guitar great Steve Gunn plays this week’s edition of Murmrr’s free series in Montauk.
