Pitchfork Festival 2017 - Saturday
Weyes Blood at Pitchfork Fest 2017 (more by James Richards IV)

What's going on Saturday?

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Weyes Blood, Purr @ Webster Hall
Weyes Blood released her excellent sophomore LP Titanic Rising earlier this year, which showcases her refining her nostalgic, 70s-inspired songwriting style, while reaching for more ambitious territory. She’ll bring those songs to Webster Hall tonight, with support from NYC-based band Purr.

Mitski, Lucy Dacus @ SummerStage at Central Park
Although Mitski has had a huge year following the release of 2018’s Be The Cowboy, she claimed this two-show run in Central Park, which begins tonight, will be her “last shows indefinitely” (although she later clarified she isn’t quitting music). She’ll have some pretty awesome support from another great songwriter and friend Lucy Dacus.

Morrissey, Interpol @ Forest Hills Stadium
Once known as champion of the misfits and misunderstood, Morrissey has been spouting a lot of questionable viewpoints over the last decade (or more) and has really been doubling down on them recently, quashing our desire to go hear him sing classics like “How Soon is Now?” and “Everyday is Like Sunday).” Interpol, who owe more than a little to early Smiths, open.

The Raconteurs @ Kings Theatre
Jack White, Brendan Benson & co re-activated The Raconteurs late last year, and this year they released their first new album in 11 years, Help Us Stranger, which is a genuinely great comeback and the best Jack White-related album in years. They celebrated it with four intimate NYC shows back in June (where they sounded great), and now their proper tour brings them back to NYC for three larger shows. This is their third.

AVAIL, Angel Du$t @ Warsaw
Richmond punk greats AVAIL were on hiatus for 12 years, but they’re finally back with the lineup that made 1998’s Over The James, and they’re playing almost that entire album at these shows plus other favorites. Very cool support comes from Angel Du$t, the hardcore-turned-jangle-pop band who released their very fun new album Pretty Buff this year.

Guerilla Toss, Machine Girl, LEYA @ Bowery Ballroom
Artsy psych-rockers Guerilla Toss bring their trippy and unique live show to NYC tonight, shortly after the release of their latest EP What Would The Odd Do?

Grivo, ESSi, Decor @ Brooklyn Bazaar
Austin’s dark, shoegazy trio Grivo released their gorgeous debut album, Elude, last year via Holodeck (the label run by members of S U R I V I V E). Expect them to be heavy, ethereal and loud.

Ceremony, Choir Boy, Glitterer @ Elsewhere
The shapeshifting Ceremony have gone from powerviolence to garage rock to Joy Division worshippers and beyond, and on their new album In the Spirit World Now, they’re channeling Devo-esque new wave and coming out with their most fun album in a while. If you’re going tonight, don’t miss Title Fight co-frontman Ned Russin’s project Glitterer, who recently released his debut album Looking Through The Shades on ANTI-.

Laurel Halo, Hodge, Ana Lola Roman @ Elsewhere Zone One
Electronic musician Laurel Halo DJs b2b with Hodge in Elsewhere’s smaller side room Zone One, along with an opening set from DJ and performer Ana Lola Roman.

Queen of Jeans @ Gold Sounds Bar
Queen of Jeans recently released their great Will Yip-produced sophomore album If you’re not afraid, I’m not afraid on Topshelf, and if you like the folky indie rock of artists like Angel Olsen and the boygenius crew, this great album should be up your alley too.

The Budos Band @ Industry City
Funky instrumental group The Budos Band brought their usual brand of strong grooves and emphatic brass sections on their latest album V, and hearing these songs in a live setting should make for an even more vibrant experience.

Matmos, Carl Stone & Akaihirume, Alex Zhang Hungtai & Pierre Guerineau @ Murmrr Theatre
It’s a night of experimental, engaging duos headlined by found-sound manipulators Matmos, plus a collaboration between Alex Zhang Hungtai (Dirty Beaches) and Esaie Pas’ Pierre Guerineau.

Neil Hamburger, Major Entertainer @ The Bell House
“America’s funnyman” Neil Hamburger (the longtime comedic persona of Gregg Turkington) has been honing his awkward style of borscht belt humor for over 25 years. He released Still Dwelling back in January.

CRX (w/ Nick Valensi of The Strokes) @ The Hole (“Meet Me in the Bathroom: The Art Show”)
Lizzy Goodman’s book on the early 2000s NYC indie rock scene, Meet Me in the Bathroom, recently spawned an extensive art exhibition at The Hole (312 Bowery), and the exhibit’s first of several live events features The Strokes guitarist Nick Valensi’s solid side project CRX.

Eyehategod, All Out War, Merauder, Come to Grief @ The Kingsland
This is a truly stacked bill of veteran heavy bands with NOLA sludge metallers Eyehategod, metalcore OGs All Out War and Merauder, and Come To Grief, an offshoot of Boston sludge vets Grief.

Live From Here with Chris Thile: Ezra Koenig (of Vampire Weekend), Holly Laurent @ Town Hall
Following Vampire Weekend’s massive show at Madison Square Garden last night, frontman Ezra Koenig will join Chris Thile onstage for his live radio variety show, Live From Here, alongside past guest Holly Laurent.

“Bushwig” @ Knockdown Center
Annual drag festival Bushwig returns to NYC for its 2019 edition, and among this year’s featured guests are RuPaul’s Drag Race season 11 Miss Congeniality winner Nina West, as well other S11 competitors, Scarlet Envy and Soju. They’ll be joined by local favorites, as well as new and up-and-coming performers, and music from Mykki Blanco, Slayyyter and others.

Siege, Fistula, Gnaw @ Brooklyn Bazaar
This is a cool bill all around with influential Boston hardcore/grind vets Siege (with Mark Fields of Proclamation on vocals), Ohio sludge/doom unit Fistula, and noisemakers Gnaw.

Back To School Jam 2019 @ White Eagle Hall
NJ hardcore fest Back To School Jam is today and the lineup is stacked as always. It begins at noon with Cold World (w/ George Hirsch) playing first, and the lineup also includes so many other great hardcore and hardcore-related bands like Martyr AD, Folly, Vein, Most Precious Blood (Nothing In Vain lineup), Guns Up!, Fiddlehead, Wisdom In Chains, King Nine, Criminal Instinct, Shark Attack, Year of the Knife, Division of Mind, Eyes of the Lord, Higher Power, Abuse of Power, One Step Closer, Buried Dreams, and Threat 2 Society.
