What's going on Saturday?

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Low, Christopher Tignor @ Murmrr Theatre
After playing Basilica Soundscape last night, Low play a proper headlining show at Brooklyn’s Murmrr Theatre tonight, behind 2018’s Double Negative. Low live prove that quiet can also be electrifying.

Joanna Newsom @ El Museo del Barrio
It’s been four years since Joanna Newsom put out her last LP, Divers, and no concrete sign of new music at the moment, but she’s nearing the end of a seven-night NYC run playing plenty of old favorites. Joanna Newsom shows are truly entrancing, and going the videos we saw of night one, these are no different.

Basilica Soundscape @ Basilica Hudson
The 2019 edition of Basilica Soundscape in Hudson, NY continues tonight with Waxahatchee, The Body, Cloud Rat, Bad Waitress, SQÜRL, Lingua Ignota, and more.

slowthai, icecoldbishop @ Music Hall of Williamsburg
UK rapper slowthai is one of the year’s fastest-rising artists, and his very fun live show is just as much a rap show as it is a punk show. If you haven’t experienced it yet, do so at MHOW tonight before he’s playing even bigger venues.

Jethro Tull @ Forest Hills Stadium
Ian Anderson continues to keep Jethro Tull’s spirit alive and flute-filled with this current incarnation of the band for their 50th anniversary tour.

Brandi Carlile, Mavis Staples @ Madison Square Garden
Brandi Carlile has had tons of success in recent times, whether it’s through her latest LP By the Way, I Forgive You, or her work with supergroup The Highwomen, whose debut album dropped just last week. She heads to NYC for a massive show at MSG, with killer support from soul legend Mavis Staples.

Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit, The Sadies @ The Capitol Theatre
The always-busy Jason Isbell brings his band The 400 Unit to Port Chester’s Capitol Theater tonight, with support from Canadian folk band The Sadies.

Lightning Bolt, Baby Baby, Murderpact @ 99 Scott Ave.
Providence noise rock vets Lightning Bolt are preparing to release their first album in four years, Sonic Citadel, which sees the band vying for a more polished sound, without sacrificing their signature aggression. Tonight’s show is part of 99 Scott Ave’s “Open Air” concert series, which the venue says will feature “unforgettably intimate” performances.

Ezra Furman, Shilpa Ray @ Bowery Ballroom
Ezra Furman described his latest LP, Twelve Nudes, as a “spiritually queer” punk record and “a slice of pure agitated rage.” He’ll perform songs off the new record tonight, supported by bluesy punk songwriter Shilpa Ray.

Charli XCX (signing) @ Rough Trade
Charli XCX dropped her highly-anticipated new album Charli this week (with appearances from Haim, Lizzo, Kim Petras, and more), and she’ll be signing copies of the record at Rough Trade today.

Solstafir, Kæland Mikla @ Brooklyn Brewery
As part of NYC’s ongoing Taste of Iceland festival, Icelandic atmospheric post-metal greats Solstafir play a rare NYC show at Brooklyn Brewery. It’s free, but they recommend showing up early.

The Growlers, The Lemonheads, The Nude Party @ Central Park SummerStage
The Growlers head to Central Park for a very special show as part of their extensive North American tour, with help from alt-rock vets The Lemonheads and North Carolina’s The Nude Party.

Psychic Luau 4: The Royal They, Teen Mortgage, Zip Tie Handcuffs, The Fucktons, True Dreams @ City Reliquary
King Pizza Records hosts its 4th Annual end-of-summer bash in quirky Williamsburg gallery City Reliquary’s backyard. Bands go all day and the fun starts at 2 PM.

New American Festival @ NeueHouse
The inaugural New American Festival, a “celebration of diversity and immigrant contributions to culture, in the arts, food, film, comedy, fashion, and more,” happens this weekend at the NeueHouse. Today includes a performance by Japanese Breakfast, and talks with Hasan Minhaj, sex therapist Dr. Ruth Westheimer, Padma Lakshmi, and more.

Dr. Dog, Shakey Graves, Liz Cooper and the Stampede @ Pier 17
Philly rockers Dr. Dog and UK-based psych songwriter Shakey Graves play their first of two shows at Pier 17’s rooftop venue at South Street Seaport tonight, as part of the venue’s ongoing Summer Concert Series.

Quinn Christopherson, Crosslegged @ Public Records
Songwriter Quinn Christopherson, who you may know as the winner of NPR Music’s latest Tiny Desk contest, plays this intimate show at recently-opened Brooklyn venue Public Records.

Wovenhand, Jaye Jayle @ Saint Vitus Bar
Two dark, folky, metal-adjacent acts grace the Saint Vitus stage tonight.

Kool Keith @ The Safari Room at El Cortez
Abstract rap legend Kool Keith plays the intimate Safari Room at El Cortez in Bushwick tonight, following the release of his most recent LP Keith.

Live From Here with Chris Thile: The Lumineers, Raphael Saadiq, Maria Popova @ Town Hall
Chris Thile hosts his regular live radio variety show Live From Here at Town Hall tonight, featuring folk rockers The Lumineers, R&B veteran Raphael Saadiq, and writer/speaker Maria Popova.

Jesse Malin, Alejandro Escovedo, Tommy Stinson, Joseph Arthur, Matthew Ryan @ Webster Hall
Jesse Malin released his latest album Sunset Kids last month, and he’ll be celebrating the album with this special record release show at Webster Hall with The Replacements’ Tommy Stinson, punk/roots rock vet Alejandro Escovedo, tourmate Joseph Arthur, and prolific songwriter Matthew Ryan.

Charlie Wilson @ Ford Amphitheater at Coney Island Boardwalk
Iconic R&B vet, former Gap Band vocalist and hip hop collaborator Charlie Wilson brings years worth of hits and fan favorites to Coney Island tonight.

Game Of Thrones Live Concert Experience @ Northwell Health at Jones Beach Theater
Game of Thrones came to a unsatisfying end back in the spring, but if you need more, series composer Ramin Djawadi will be on hand for at least a little of this concert featuring an orchestra playing music from the series against dazzling projections.
