What's going on Saturday?

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Manchester Orchestra, Foxing, Oso Oso @ Brooklyn Steel
Manchester Orchestra are celebrating the 10th anniversary of their grungiest album, Mean Everything To Nothing on this tour. Manchester’s heavy side is always great to witness live, so seeing them do this album should be a real treat. Sweetening the deal is two of the finest newer indie-emo bands, Foxing and Oso Oso.

The Hold Steady @ Brooklyn Bowl
The Hold Steady wrap up their annual four-night holiday show run at Brooklyn Bowl and tonight’s opener, Ezra Furman, should make for a great lead-up to the main event.

The Magnetic Fields, Stephin Merritt @ Symphony Space
Stephin Merritt’s four-show residency at Symphony Space continues tonight, and he’ll be joined by the rest of The Magnetic Fields to play songs from their celebrated 1999 LP 69 Love Songs and the more recent 50 Song Memoir, with maybe some newer songs too.

The Ergs, School Drugs, Teenage Halloween @ House of Independents
Cult pop punks The Ergs! are doing a rare tour for the 15th anniversary of their debut album dorkrockcorkrod. Having played Brooklyn in November, they play their home state of NJ tonight.

Hospital Fest @ Market Hotel
Hospital Productions’ annual NYC festival Hospital Fest is today, with early and late shows that offer up great lineups of metal, noise, electronic music, and more. Big highlights include death metal new-ish-comers Tomb Mold playing their much-loved 2019 album Planetary Clairvoyance in full and electronics wiz Andy Stott playing his only US show of 2019, and first since releasing his new It Should Be Us double EP. Other acts include Pain Jerk, Eternal Champion, Akitsa, Richard Ramirez, Skin Crime, Ninos Du Brasil, Rainforest Spiritual Enslavement, and more.

Lightning Bolt, USAISAMONSTER, Baby Baby, Animental @ Pioneer Works
Noise rock greats Lightning Bolt head to Brooklyn’s cavernous Pioneer Works behind this year’s Sonic Citadel, with help from fellow experimentalists USAISAMONSTER and Animental, Baby Baby.

Kissed By An Animal, SAVAK, Desert Sharks, Irrevery @ East Williamsburg Econo Lodge
SAVAK, which includes members of Obits, Holy Fuck and more, celebrate the release of their new Mirror Maker EP.

Blind Boys of Alabama @ New York Society for Ethical Culture
The Blind Boys of Alabama have been singing traditional gospel since for 70 years and tonight bring some holiday cheer in support of their album “Talkin’ Christmas!”

Rushad Eggleston, Vic Thrill, Milton, Benjamin Cartel, Juliana Nash, Lizzie and The Makers, Karl Meyer Trio @ Pete’s Candy Store
There aren’t too many things from 1999 Williamsburg that are still around, but Pete’s Candy Store is one of them. The bar/venue wraps up a week-long 20th anniversary celebration with a few of their favorite performers, including Vic Thrill and Benjamin Cartel.

Ghost Funk Orchestra, Aberdeen @ Rockwood Music Hall
Led by Seth Applebaum, Brooklyn’s Ghost Funk Orchestra fall somewhere between classic soul and ’60s psych. It’s clear Applebaum knows what he wants as the ensemble’s new album, A Song For Paul, really nails a certain sound that falls somewhere between Marvin Gaye, The Supremes, The Free Design and David Axelrod.

Kings Destroy, Relaxer, Kings of the Fucking Sea, Borracho @ Saint Vitus
Kings Destroy, one of Brooklyn’s finest local metal bands at the moment, released their best album yet earlier this year with Fantasma Nera. Tonight, they play a hometown show at Saint Vitus with Akron’s Relaxer, Nashville’s Kings of the Fucking Sea, and DC’s Borracho.

Summer Walker, Melii @ Terminal 5
Atlanta R&B singer Summer Walker has garnered tons of buzz lately (even appearing on some year-end lists), and Harlem rapper/singer Melii also continues to rise. This is their first of two T5 shows together.

The Janelle James Comedy Festival @ The Bell House
Now in its second year, The Janelle James Comedy Festival (formerly the Eugene Mirman Comedy Festival) concludes tonight with “Comedians Who Flewed Out,” featuring The Lucas Brothers, Ayo Edebiri, Jaboukie Young-White, Casey Balsham, and Ethan Simmons-Patterson.

The Cult @ The Capitol Theatre
The Cult are celebrating the 30th anniversary of their breakthrough album A Sonic Temple, which scored them a U.S. Top 40 hit with “Fire Woman.”

Twin Peaks, Lala Lala, OHMME @ The Dance
Chicago indie rock band Twin Peaks embraced ’70s rock on their new album Lookout Low which suits them surprisingly well. Following a big show at Webster Hall on Thursday, they play the 250-capacity The Dance tonight. It could get wild.

HR (Bad Brains) & Human Rights, MAAFA, REBELMATIC, The 1865, The Screws, Universe Ignore Her, Foxtails @ The Kingsland
Any chance to see Bad Brains frontman HR play is worth taking. Tonight, he headlines Brooklyn punk venue The Kingsland.

Joan As Police Woman @ The Owl
Joan Wasser just played Pete’s Candy Store as part of the Williamsburg venue’s 20th anniversary, and tonight she plays another very intimate venue — Prospect Lefferts Gardens’ The Owl.

Live From Here with Chris Thile: Pixies, Black Pumas, Crooked Still, Aoife O’Donovan, Tom Papa, Anthony Veneziale, Aneesa Folds and Chris Sullivan from Freestyle Love Supreme @ Town Hall
Chris Thile’s public radio show Live From Here returns to Town Hall tonight with a great array of guests, including Pixies, funk/soul duo Black Pumas, bluegrass band Crooked Still, songwriter Aoife O’Donovan, comedian Tom Papa, and Freestyle Love Supreme cast members Anthony Veneziale, Aneesa Folds and Chris Sullivan.

Emily Yacina, Ondine, Castle Pasture @ Union Pool
Bedroom pop artist Emily Yacina heads to Union Pool tonight, supporting her recent fifth LP Remember The Silver.

Bettye LaVette @ White Eagle Hall
The great Bettye LaVette can do it all — rock, soul, country, R&B, disco…even a holiday song or two. She plays the NYC area often but that’s no reason not to go.

David Byrne’s American Utopia @ Hudson Theatre
David Byrne has retooled his acclaimed “untethered” 2018 for the Broadway stage and while the setlist and arrangements are much like what they were on his tour, songs are now threaded together with new monologues from Byrne, making for a much more theatrical experience.

The Fall of Troy, Kaonashi, Tiny Gun, Body Grief @ Knitting Factory Brooklyn
The Fall of Troy helped shape the type of mathy, proggy post-hardcore that had a bit of a moment the early 2000s, and their early albums like their classic 2005 sophomore LP Doppelgänger still sound great today.

The Spill Canvas, The Juliana Theory (acoustic), Cory Wells @ Rough Trade
The Spill Canvas are celebrating the 15th anniversary of Sunsets & Car Crashes at this show, and it’s also a chance to catch long-running emo greats The Juliana Theory playing acoustic.

You can also find quality entertainment on almost any night of the week at: Barbès bar and performance space in Park Slope, LunÀtico in Bed Stuy, Nublu in the East Village, Blue Note jazz club in the West Village, The Stone in multiple locations, Comedy Cellar in the West Village, and Q.E.D. comedy club in Astoria.
