Big Thief at BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! Festival
Big Thief at Prospect Park in 2016 (more by Amanda Hatfield)

What's going on Saturday?

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Big Thief, Sam Evian, Twain @ Bowery Ballroom
Saddle Creek has been on a roll lately, and one of their best new bands is Brooklyn’s folky indie rockers Big Thief, who released their great debut album Masterpiece last year. Tonight’s their biggest headlining show in their hometown yet, and it includes their Saddle Creek labelmate Sam Evian.

PWR BTTM @ Joe’s Pub
Glittery pop punk duo PWR BTTM are likely about to have a big 2017, with the release of their anticipated sophomore album (and first for Polyvinyl). They’ve got two sold-out Joe’s Pub shows as part of the Under the Radar festival this month, this being the first, and they also play a sold-out Shea show in February.

The Mystery Lights, The Nude Party, Breanna Barbara Baby’s All Right
North Carolina’s The Nude Party have been mixing garage, rockabilly and ’60s British Invasion sounds into their own debaucherous mix for about three years now, and will release their debut LP this year.

DJ Heather, Nancy Whang, Jayson Green @ Good Room
LCD Soundsystem/Juan Maclean member Nancy Whang will keep the party going like it’s 2002 tonight.

Ian Sweet, Patio, T-Rextasy, Human People * Shea Stadium
Brooklyn’s Ian Sweet mixed shoegaze, punk and indie rock on their debut album which came out last year via Hardly Art. Tonight’s the kickoff show for their January tour.

Lee Fields & The Expressions, Lady Wray, Paul and the Tall Trees Irving Plaza
Fans of classic soul and R&B will not want to miss this show, headlined by the great Lee Fields and also featuring the equally groovy sounds of Lady Wray.

Winter Jazzfest
Things are in full swing for Winter Jazzfest which is hosting concerts of all shapes and sizes all over NYC.

Mary Halvorson, Ben Goldberg, Edmar Castaneda, SuperEtte, Talibam! @ New School 5th Floor Theatre (Winter Jazzfest)
One of the more avant-garde shows that’s part of WJF is this one, headlined by dadaist provocateurs Talibam! and also featuring Ben Greenberg (ex-The Men) and highly original guitarist Mary Halvorson.

Thou, Vile Creature, Cowardice @ Silent Barn (2 pm matinee)
Louisiana sludge greats Thou haven’t released an album since 2014’s Heathen, and while there isn’t any word on a followup yet, our fingers are crossed. Meanwhile, they’re playing three NYC shows this weekend, the final two of which are today. First it’s this matinee, and then…

Thou, Miserable, Ghastly City Sleep @ Saint Vitus
…Thou wrap up their NYC run at Vitus with shoegazers Miserable and the City of Caterpillar-related Ghastly City Sleep.

Cakes Da Killa @ Brooklyn Museum
One of NYC’s most fun, most interesting rappers, Cakes Da Killa, plays a show in a pretty unique environment tonight. 9 PM start.
