What's going on Saturday?

Kemmis - Hunted

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Khemmis, Crypt Sermon, Sanhedrin @ Saint Vitus
Khemmis and Crypt Sermon released some of the best trad-style doom albums in recent memory, Khemmis with 2015’s Absolution and last year’s Hunted, and Crypt Sermon with 2015’s Out of the Garden. They make for a killer pairing, and tonight’s show is sold out.

Holy Ghost!, Classixx @ Music Hall of Williamsburg
Two dance duos from different coasts are teaming up for two nights at MHOW, make-up shows for last year’s canceled T5 show. Tonight’s Night 1.

James Murphy Vs Eric Duncan (DJ sets) @ Output
Says James Murphy, “If you are in NYC and you don’t know what to do with yourself from 10 PM to some very late time, my friend Eric and I are going to play from doors opening until doors closing. I apologize in advance for anything i do which turns out to be embarrassing.”

Sad13, Patio, Painted Zeros, Jackal Onassis @ C’mon Everybody
Speedy Ortiz singer Sadie Dupuis released her debut solo album as Sad13, Slugger, last year, and she’s already got plenty on her plate for 2017 too. Tonight she headlines a benefit show for the Southern Poverty Law Center.

Mild High Club, Pavo Pavo @ Rough Trade
Mild High Club further explored the mellow underbelly of the musical world on last year’s Skiptracing, while applying it to a concept album motif of a “private investigator attempting to trace the steps of the sound and the spirit of American music.” Whether you follow the plot or not, the music — owling to various boat shoe-wearing bands of the late ’70s — is pretty groovy. (Ariel Pink and The High Llamas chilling on the beach with the Doobie Brothers in San Diego? Kinda.)

Beth Israel, Bodega, Staffers, Perfect Strangers @ Alphaville
Philly’s Beth Israel (who have ties with Parquet Courts and Dull Tools label) play tonight with Omaha’s twangy Staffers.

Circa Survive, mewithoutYou, Turnover @ Webster Hall
Circa Survive are celebrating the tenth anniversary of On Letting Go on tour, and they’re bringing along two very cool openers. There’s mewithoutYou, who’s fruitful career has dabbled in post-hardcore, art rock, indie folk, and more; and emo-ish dream pop band Turnover. This is their first of two Webster Hall shows.

Mat Kerekes, Elder Brother, The Flats @ The Studio at Webster Hall
Citizen make post-hardcore that’s sorta part Jesus Lizard, part Warped tour, but singer Mat Kerekes’ solo project is a little lighter, pulling from poppy ’90s alternative rock (he names Third Eye Blind as a main influence). Last year he released Luna & the Wild Blue Everything.

Zevious, Husbandry, Sperm Donor, Super Blond @ Trans-Pecos
Trans-Pecos hosts a night of local heavy experimental music with a lineup led by Zevious and Husbandry.

‘Funeral Doom Spiritual’ w/ M. Lamar & Hunter Hunt-Hendrix @ National Sawdust (two shows)
“Funeral Doom Spiritual” is a monodrama by NYC composer M. Lamar and Liturgy lead Hunter Hunt-Hendrix that “draws on themes of apocalypse, end times, and rapture found in Negro Spirituals, what Lamar calls ‘Doom Spirituals.’” They’re presenting the piece with two shows at National Sawdust tonight, that will have M. Lamar on vocals and piano, Hunter on electronics, and strings by The James Ilgenfritz Ensemble.
