What’s going on Saturday?
You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…
Priests, Snail Mail, Juicy ii @ Brooklyn Night Bazaar
On their brand new album Nothing Feels Natural, DC’s Priests match fiery politics with killer post-punk inspired rock, and is not without its subtleties too. Priests are flat-out terrific live and they celebrate The LP’s release tonight with Baltimore’s Snail Mail.
American Football, Joan of Arc, Mothers @ Terminal 5
Influential emo vets American Football returned last year with their first album in 17 years, and it’s really on par with their classic debut. Tonight they play their biggest NYC show ever, with quality support from Joan of Arc (the band led by American Football frontman Mike Kinsella’s brother/longtime collaborator Tim) and indie folk newcomers Mothers.
Kevin Saunderson, Wolf + Lamb, The Juan Maclean, Nancy Whang (The Juan Maclean/LCD Soundsystem), Eric Duncan, DJ Nicky Siano, Goddollars, Paradise @ Capitale
Techno originator Kevin Saunderson, along with a few DFA staples, spin at this party held at swanky downtown club Capitale.
‘New Peck’ ballet (music by Dan Deacon) @ David H. Koch Theater
Dan Deacon‘s “The USA” suite from his 2012 album America is going to be used by the New York City Ballet as part of their “New Combinations” program they’ll perform seven times this season. As choreographed by the acclaimed Justin Peck, the performance will have “his dancers trading their pointe shoes in for sneakers.”
Ayse Hassan (of Savages – DJ set), Stephen Lee Clark (of Deafheaven – DJ set), DJ Elia Einhorn @ The Great Georgiana
Expect to hear a lot of post-punk as bassists for Savages and Deafheaven spin tunes tonight. Free.
Nelly McKay @ 54 Below
Nelly McKay performs her show “A Girl Named Bill: The Life and Times of Billy Tipton” which is about “Billy Tipton, the little-known midcentury jazz bandleader, who was assumed to be a man but was discovered at his death to be a woman.”
PHOX, Cuddle Magic Music Hall of Williamsburg
Indie folk-pop band PHOX headline this show, and if you’re going, it’s worth showing up for avant-pop group Cuddle Magic too.
Sadist, Murderer, Exit Order, Nandas, Subversive Rite @ Silent Barn (Planned Parenthood Benefit)
Tonight Silent Barn hosts a solid lineup of hardcore bands for a very good cause.
Escort, Horizon Wireless @ Brooklyn Bowl
Brooklyn disco orchestra Escort wrap up a two-night stand at Brooklyn Bowl tonight.
Circa Survive, mewithoutYou, Turnover @ Starland Ballroom
Circa Survive are celebrating the tenth anniversary of On Letting Go on tour, and they’re bringing along two very cool openers. There’s mewithoutYou, who’s fruitful career has dabbled in post-hardcore, art rock, indie folk, and more; and emo-ish dream pop band Turnover. They already played two NYC shows and tonight they’re in Jersey.
