Run the Jewels @ Aragon Ballroom
Run the Jewels in Chicago earlier this month (more by James Richards IV)

What's going on Saturday?

No Joy @ Rough Trade, 2015 (more by Amanda Hatfield)

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

No Joy, Mercury Girls, Journalism @ Sunnyvale
No Joy’s new EP finds the Montreal band heading into poppier, dancier territory while still being loud and shredding. The band’s Jasamine White–Gluz’s say tonight’s show will be different than NYC has seen before, including having producer Jorge Elbrecht (Violens) as a member of the band. Jangly dreampop band Mercury Girls make this a great double bill.

Run The Jewels, The Gaslamp Killer, Gangsta Boo, Nick Hook, Cuz @ Terminal 5
Killer Mike and El-P are both bigger than ever thanks to Run the Jewels, who recently released their excellent third album as a surprise Christmas gift. They’re on tour now, and tonight they begin a FOUR-night run at Terminal 5.

Lauryn Hill, Common, Little Simz, Jojo Abot, Paul Beaubrun @ Radio City
Neo-soul OG Lauryn Hill is currently on her “MLH Caravan: A Diaspora Calling!” tour, which “allows [her] to continue the theme of unity and celebration of the many facets of cultural and artistic beauty throughout the African diaspora.” Good openers tonight too, including fellow ’90s-era great Common.

Tunde Adebimpe, Bilal, Toshi Reagon, Staceyann Chin, Robert Glasper Igmar Thomas & the Revive Big Band @ The Apollo (Afropunk) (two shows)
This show is the conclusion to Afropunk’s week-long takeover in Harlem for Black History Month, and it’s billed as “Afropunk’s ‘Unapologetically Black,’ The African-American Songbook Remixed.” Good lineup, including TV on the Radio’s Tunde Adebimpe, neo-soul great Bilal, and more.

The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, Sad13, Sports, Half Waif, T-Rextasy @ Brooklyn Bazaar (Indie Pop Prom)
It’s the fifth annual Indie Pop Prom, which doubles as the birthday party for show curator Maria Sherman and aims to highlight bands with lady musicians. This year, proceeds go to The Pink Fund, an organization that helps with financial assistance for breast cancer patients. It’s a good lineup, headlined by The Pains of Being Pure at Heart (which now includes Jess of Fear of Men), who also headlined the very first Indie Pop Prom.

Hamilton Leithauser, Lucy Dacus @ Bowery Ballroom
Leithauser’s weary yowl brought grit to The Walkman’s raw sound, and it’s aged well as his music has gotten smoother, like on his collaborative 2016 album with ex-Vampire Weekend member Rostam Batmanglij. This is Hamilton’s final of three NYC shows supporting that record. Rostam isn’t listed on the bill, but you never know. Do catch opener Lucy Dacus, whose debut album was released via Matador last year.

Jounce, Caged Animals @ Union Hall
Caged animals just released “These Dark Times,” a protest anthem that is heartfelt and ultimately hopeful, a combination that this band are very good at.

Concert for Bruce Langhorne w/ Suzanne Langille & Loren Mazzacane Connors, Steve Gunn, Alan Licht & Steve Shelley Duo, Laura Ortman, Dylan Aycock @ Brooklyn Music School
A bunch of very talented, well-respected musicians pay tribute to and come to the aid of guitarist and folk musician Bruce Langhorne

Honey Radar, Antietam, Big Bliss @ Mercury Lounge
If you dig low-fi indie rock that likes to keep things short, sweet and loose (hello GbV fans), Honey Radar are doing this as well as just about any new band. Last year’s Blank Cartoon is a terrific example of what they do.

Kool Keith, Large Professor, Ave Campbell @ The Safari Room at El Cortez
The very long-running and still creative weirdo MC Kool Keith headlines this show, which also includes fellow rap legend Large Professor.

Whitechapel, Cattle Decapitation, Allegaeon, Necromancing The Stone @ Irving Plaza
This is the Metal Blade Records 35th Anniversary Tour, and most interesting to us is the inclusion of deathgrinders Cattle Decapitation.

Ignite, Red Hymns, Hangman, I Disappear @ The Marlin Room at Webster Hall
Melodic hardcore vets Ignite have been going strong since the ’90s and last year they released A War Against You on Century Media, their first album in a decade. This show was rescheduled from October.

Prodigy of Mobb Deep (H.N.I.C. Unplugged) @ Blue Note (midnight)
Mobb Deep’s Prodigy will perform his classic 2000 solo debut H.N.I.C. with a full band tonight, “unplugged.” It’s a midnight show.

The Gaslamp Killer, Nick Hook, Sam O.B. @ Knockdown Center
While they’re in NYC on the Run the Jewels tour, beatmakers Gaslamp Killer and Nick Hook will also play this late show in Queens.

Benevento Russo Duo, WOLF! @ Brooklyn Bowl
Marco Benevento and WOLF! leader Scott Metzger are regulars in the jam band scene but they both have some indie rock sensibilities and associations too. They played Brooklyn Bowl earlier this month and return tonight. This time, Marco’s set is a duo with Grateful Dead family member Joe Russo.
